From the 2009-2010 Maxima Service Manual that can be obtained here. I think Promanuals.net is the only place that has the 2009-2010 full service manual as of now.

REMOVAL
1. Disengage the filter cover tab (1) by pushing up and pull out to
remove the filter cover.
2. Remove the in-cabin microfilter from the blower unit by using the
pull tab on the bottom of the filter.

There is 1 problem with the owner’s manual about the filter's location. You will find the filter cover under the panel on the passenger's side center console. To find it, follow the side of the center console all the way forward on the passenger's side. You will see that it is in two sections. Grab the forward section of the console from the bottom and pull out and towards the rear of the car. It will "pop off". The you will be able to see the filter cover. Also, the aftermarket filters are not correct for '09 - '11 Maxima's. So head over to www.NissanPartsDirect.com to get your factory filter for less than what you’d pay at the dealer!

SOURCE: how do I change the

If you are quite comfortable working on cars you can do this. The in cabin air filter is accessed through the glove box opening after removal of the glove box.
There is a small panel covering the right hand side of the glove box which will pop off if you pry lightly with a standard screwdriver
Then there are eight philips head screws which must be removed. Three are at the bottom of the glove box, three more are inside on the top and two are located inside at the rear top of the glove box. Once these are removed and the glove box is pulled out the filter is accessible, but not very easily seen.
It is located on the far left side and covered by a black plastic cover. You can reach in and push up lightly on the plastic cover removing it.
The opening is smaller than the filter and that makes removal and replacement difficult, but the filter is flexible and the pull tab can be used to extract the old filter. The new one can be squeezed and pushed into place with the air direction arrow towards you (the same orientation as the one removed). Replace the plastic cover and reinstall the glovebox by installing the eight screws and the side cover. Thanks for choosing Fixya,
RJ

cabin air filter is either behind glove box or on passenger side of windage tray, under the plastic cover where the windsheid wiper arms come out. yes you can if the vehicle is actually equiped with one, sometimes they arent, even though parts retailer show that they are.

How do I replace the HEPA cabin filtert on my 2005 Nissan Maxima?

I'm not certain about the 95 model but a lot of them are behind the glove compartment door. You will need to actually remove the glov compartment door to get to the in cabin filter. I'm not sure if this helps any. good luck.

The cabin air filter on this vehicle should be located behind the glovebox. You will need to remove the glovebox to get to the access panel for the cabin air filter.Pull the cover off which usually consists of a few clips.Slide the filter out and you are ready to reinstall.

Change cabin air filter

Most cabin air filters are located inside the dash. Only way to access this area is through the glove box. Open glove box, remove/open the tabs and the glove box cover will drop down to gain access. Be sure to remove all items from the box or they will just dump out on floor. Behind the glove box using a flashlight you will see the filter, remove, replacement is reverse of accessing.

Hope this helps!
