You need to ensure that here are no vacuum leaks in the line from the tank to the lift pump, the lift pump which looks very similar to a car petrol pump must be in good working order ie able to pump the minimum pressure and volume at cranking speed and idle speed. If the lift pump is not working properly it will cause cavitation at the injector pump that will cause low pressure bubbles on the intake of the injector pump. If you have a good lift pump and there are no vacuum leaks between the tank and the lift pump then it may be down to bleeding the air out of the injector lines first at the pump, and then at the end of the injector lines (be very careful the diesel is at 170 to 175 times atmospheric pressure which is about 2500 pounds per square inch (which can penetrate skin deeply and even bone). Most of the Ford tractors use a rotary injection pump. Having only one cylinder not pressurizing is extremely unusual, try swapping the injectors between cylinders to see if it is a faulty injector, making sure to use new or at least anneal the old copper sealing washers and tension the injectors evenly with a tension wrench to correct torque. If the misfire then follows the injector it means your need the injectors servicing. New needles & nozzles for injectors is a lot cheaper than a new or rebuilt rotary injection pump. Please advise if it’s an inline pump. (which I doubt they were rare because they cost more).
It depends on what you consider costly. It will cost more than a spark plug, less than a carburetor.
Is it a diesel injector or a gasoline injector? What kind of injector? What vehicle? Just replacing the injector is not too involved, just the price of the new one is the greater part of the cost.
is this diesel ? take to another garage, as injectors do have seals , but once there leaking you will need new injectors as the seal will be crushed to the bottom of the injector seat , and cannot be repaired as not cost effective as opposed to buying a new set
Hi, I think if that injector nozzle is blocked, you have to replace that injector nozzle. Most cars today uses electromagnetic type of nozzle. Your mechanic could replace that nozzle.
that's really not enough information to tell you if the car is worth fixing, what is the overall condition of the car, what is the cost anticipated to put in the new computer and fuel injectors, what is the mileage on the car? How is the maintenance on the rest of the vehicle?
You have to weigh the cost factors and what you anticipate the life of the vehicle to be and your over all economic situation before you can truly answer that question.
Your truck is on a limp mode, there is a fault in your drive train that the ECM recognized and is doing it's job. Your going to have to get it scanned for a DTC code which will inform you why it's in the limp mode.
Most major parts store like Auto Zone or Parts Source will be more then happy to scan for free and help you understand why and what repairs needs to be done. If it's something you think you can do, they'll have the part or order it in and will have the step by step instructions to replace or replace the faulty part.
Good luck and hope this helps. I had a friend who had problem with his 2004 Siverado and the Dealer told him he needed a new fuel filter which was a part of the fule pump and 4 new injectors. Long story short dealer wanted $1500.00, I asked him to have it scanned at Auto Zone it was multiple misfire from injectors running lean.
We changed the spark plugs, wire set, ect. (tune up) and had the fuel injectors cleaned. Truck runs great and no codes, cost was under $200.00 for parts and having the injectors cleaned.
You need to either clean the injectors with some type of additive, or install new injectors. Try the additive first, if it doesn't work, you might need to install new injectors, which can be costly, but the car won't run well without them.
hope this helps
