Oil light came on and there is a knocking sound

Yesterday the oil light came on and there is a knocking sound in the engine. I was driving today and the battery light came on and the car imediately shut down. I had no acceleration and the steering wheel locked up. I was unable to jumpstart the car.

As soon as the oil light came on I went and had the oil changed yesterday. They also added tx7 engine treatment that was suppose to help with the knocking.

Sounds like the engine done froze up. No oil pressure= no lubrication= things melt together...
You can locate a previously used motor in a recycling yard or you can spend a fortune rebuilding that one, which is probably lunched.
Third choice, donate the Audi to a charity for a tax write-off. Buy another car. Pay attention to trivial matters like servicing and checking fluids.
Best of luck.

That's like swearing off smoking, pizza and fries after the cardiac event.
TH7, or whatever is was, is an additive which reduces friction but it, and all of the new oil in the world, won't repair physical damage to bearing surfaces.
At the least you need a tear-down and inspection of the crankshaft, rod bearings, all that stuff inside the engine.
Try turning the engine over with a wrench on the crankshaft pulley, make things easy, take out the spark plugs. If it moves at all, try spinning it with the starter motor.
Knocking is caused by moving parts hitting each other, at that point it's endsville.
    Sorry.

You should never have driven the car today. The RED oil light and knocking sound was a sign of low oil pressure and was a warning to STOP. You may have done serious damage to the engine by ignoring this. Have the car towed to a trusted mechanic for repair.

Like the other posted said, no amount of oil additive will fix the damage that has already been done. You need to have the engine inspected by a professional to see exactly how much damage has been done. A compression test will help verify this. The oil pan may need to be removed. There is a reason this happened and it may be the oil pump failed, or another cause. More than likely the engine will need to be opened up. You will then have a decision to make. Overhaul this engine, replace it with a used engine, or sell the car as is.

It sounds as if you seized the motor due to lack of oil ( very easy to prevent too bad you never checked the oil level )

Dosent sound good. Oil light on means you lost oil pressure. and the knocking sound is the damage done due to low pressure. Start looking for another engine or another van.

check the earth lead connections to the engine from the car body, undo them, clean them up, and re assemble, then check the electric connectors to the starter motor the same way, check also plug connector is securely pushed into back of alternator.
Another thing to note, you mentioned the lights slowly dimmed after fitting new battery, this could indicate a major short circuit. good luck, P

Oil Light stays on.

it sounds like a faulty sending unit the only way to know for sure is to install a mechanical gauge and measure pressure. or just replace the sender. it is not wise to drive it and just assume it is nothing major. if it is a mechanical problem will cost a lot more if you lock the engine up

Oil light goes on and off and engine has a knocking sound.

This sounds like severe engine damage, do to loss of internal lubrication (no oil). That's the bad thing about 'idiot' warning lights, they come on when u have a severe problem, and the damage is done. You are going to probably have to purchase a used engine from an auto salvage yard, or purchase a re -manufactured engine. Sorry for the bad news, this is about as bad as it gets.

It sounds like the timing chain self adjuster is not operating properly.
This unit is internal and is oil fed by engine oil pump.
Sometimes it can be remedied by replacing engine oil and filter, try 15x40 oil (for warm weather) or 5w30 (Cold climates)
