Question about 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Chevy Equinox with AWD. When braking the ABS and TC lights come on intermittantly. It seems to happen more when you are slowing at a red light to take a right turn. My local brake shop put his scan tool on and all four speed sensors were reading 70mph when going 35. When he was able to get the abs issue to happen the right front sensor was reading 2-3 mph slower than the other four. He was making a right turn. He wants to replace the right front sensor and re scan..if it is reading 35mph when going 35 then replace the other three sensors. I not sure I agree. A few other facts that may be important. 1. A deer ran into the front right requiring a replacement of the right front panel and door. There didn't appear to be any damage to the wheel. 2. Grease Monkey overtightened my front differential casing a crack on the housing. They replaced the front differential with a used unit. 3. I have replaced the front rotors and the master cyclinder.

Thank you for this answer. I trust this brake shop, but they are an older shop that my not have the latest electronic tools. I noticed that you can buy the individual speed sensor or the whole hub assembly with sensor. If I get the hub assembly is the tone ring in the hub?

My daughter drives this car so I not sure when it started but I think it was around the time the differential was changed.

    Thanks again

It seems odd that it would read 70 mph on all wheels when only going 35. He may have been reading in kilometers, 70 kilometers = roughly 40 mph. If you replace one sensor and it reads 35 mph, I would contact the dealership and ask about it, may have the wrong part installed.

When the scan tool read the variation in speed, did it set and codes? If not, make sure he has a high quality scan tool. A lower quality scan tool can miss a lot of info.

An intermittent fluictuation of 2-3 mph can cause the abs and traction control to activate, therefore the sensor is the most likely problem. Before replacing inspect all the wiring to the sensors and the condition of the tone ring that provides info to the sensor, if one of the teeth on the ring were damaged when they replaced your differential that could be a problem.

The deer should not have caused an issue as it hit on the opposite side of the ECM and ABS and TC computers.

What you do in this situation depends on how much you trust your mechanic, if you have any questions of his ability I would get a second opinion.

The tone ring can not be serviced seperately,it will be included.

It looks like the tone ring is on the axle shaft.

Abslight stays on. How to fix? This is a2007trailblazer?

First you need to have EBCM - electronic brake control module check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . If the light is on there is a code stored . I think most part stores can do this and for free . After you find out what code is stored , looking up that code in service repair information for diagnostic trouble shooting chart would be next step . There are a few codes too.
DTC C0035 or C0040
DTC C0045 or C0050
DTC C0110
DTC C0131
DTC C0161
DTC C0186
DTC C0196
DTC C0201
DTC C0240
DTC C0241 or P0856
DTC C0244 or P1689
DTC C0245
DTC C0283
DTC C0287
DTC C0290 or C0292
DTC C0455
DTC C0550
DTC C0558

Find the code do the diagnostic's , fix the problem , wiring issue's , a sensor , bad module ,what ever it is . The light will go out then . Here is a sample of code discription .
• DTC C0035 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
• DTC C0040 Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

I have a 2005 Equinox. The abs and tc light are on. Also there is an occaisional sound and vibration when I press on the brakes going at a slow rate of speed. The local Chevy dealer test drove the...

Have a competent mechanic scan the codes in the ABS control. A common fail point of the 2005 Equinox is the wire harness jumper for the drivers front wheel sensor. This is a foot and a half long jumper that connects the wheel sensor to the engine compartment wire harness. It is rigidly held in place by a couple of plastic stays that create a pinch flex point just beneath the lower stay where wheel turn moves the wire against this rigid point. After about 60-80k miles, the wire begins to break down in the insulator and false wheel speed readings are read as false wheel slip indications while the ABS system tries to modulate brake pressure. This modlation creates the grinding feel. After an amount of time, the ABS computer "recognizes" this as a fault and shuts ABS and traction control off since both systems use the wheel spin input, and the dash lights light.
Although this is a pretty pricey part at a dealer, a genuine Delco replacement part can be found online often at a much more reasonable price.

Abs light and tc on my 2005 chevy equinox

Hi,

The ABS & TC circuits are related.

It's possible one of your wheel speed sensors may be either contaminated (i.e. dirt or metal filings) or faulty, or a problem with your ABS pump.

Your vehicle's OBD computer will have store the appropriate fault codes, so have your codes read by Autozone or your local Chev/GM dealership. It should only take around 15 minutes to extract the codes and will immediately identify the suspected circuit.

My 2 have always made that noise, I'm guessing it has something to do with the ABS charging in preparation for potential use. after a combined total of 240k miles, there has been no noted detrimental effect to this "charging" sound.

I have a 2005 chevy equinox i replace the front rotors and brakes now when you come to a stop the car sounds like the abs system is kicking in

check the connections on the abs, behind the rotor by strut is the connection for the abs if the connector is loose or not properly affixed to the clip it sets off the abs trouble code or low speed saftey usually activates at slow speed under 5 miles an hour the connector and clip are part of the abs circuit--also recheck ur brake pads for binding and brake fluid level --if u get a trouble code have vehicle scanned some auo stores such as auto zone / advanced auto scan for free this will tell u which sensor or unit is causing problem
