Question about 1997 Mazda 626

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Mazda 626 Cronos and at very slow speeds backing up and turning or forward turning right, I get a popping or clunking sound. If I turn real slow to the right The noise is pretty evenly space time wise. The CV boots look OK, no tears, rips, ect. It does however go away at faster speeds.

It could either be the CV JOINT...even tho rubber looks good or it could be a front strut

Did you swap out throttle bodies? You may need to replace the PCM if you did. I don't think there's a way to rechip but then again maybe...

1997 mazda 626 cruise control not working

Check the 20A STOP FUSE and 10A METER FUSE in the joint box but also there may be no speed sensor input that signals the cruise control to engage.

Most likely you have a bad drive axle, each drive axle has 2 universal joints and when they get worn they make a big clunk sound. Especially turning or going from forward to reverse.

I have a 1997 Mazda 626 LX 2.0 Do i have to reset

Not sure, but I think it is preset meaning there is no adjustments. If the mounting holes are not slotted, then there is no adjustment. If they are, check underhood sticker for timing specs and procedures

No driving lights?

Hello there - I would suggest checking the fuse for your lights in the fuse box, and check under the hood for a fuse/relay box, and have the relay tested. If the fuses and relays are good, open the hood, and try to check the connection to the headlights and make sure they are securely connected. You also mentioned that when you push the headlights switch forward for brights, and turn on the night time head lights, and neither come on but the daytime lights do, makes me suspect the switch itself may be bad. I would first check the fuses and relays if any. Second, I would replace the bulbs (if replacable). Other than that, my last guess would be an electrical problem in the wiring somewhere. I hope this information helps you fix your lights. Thank you for your time and consideration in my suggestions/answers.
