I would replace sensors and then reset check engine light and drive if light comes back on then replace converter, 80% of the converters are condemed because o2 sensors are bad, garage fiqure if they replace everything there sure to fix the problem, but the cost is on you.GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have changed both oxygen sensor and spacer also the coolant tempature sensor and the check engine light is still on in my 2005 Audi Quattro 1.8t what else could be wrong?

P0420 means that the catalytic converter is operating below efficiency threshold. Normally, you only get this code if both O2 sensors ARE OPERATING PROPERLY. If you change the O2 sensors and still get the same code, it's an indication your catalytic converter needs to be replaced. But before you replace it, ensure that everything else in the engine is operating properly, so that whatever may have damaged your current catalytic converter doesn't damage a new one.

Does the ecm have anything to due with the catalatic converters being removed . I bought the car and found out the ecm was out and that the catalatic coverters had been removed(straight exhaust)

The ECM only monitors many different aspects of the Engine while it's running. The only link I would see between the two is that the Cat.was that the ECM no longer works because they didnt want the Cars computer setting
off any check engine lights etc. When you delete the Cat you delete the cars ability to convert bad vapors into less harmful ones. which in turn would set off the check engine light and not pass inspection.

Whats the difference between up and downstream sensor on a chevy s10 1997, what exact sensors do i need for bank 1 and bank 2 sensor1

Well upstream from the Catalatic Converter means towards the engine and that would be the location for Sensor #1 on both sides of the engine. And Downstream would be away from the engine past the Catalatic Converter For Sensor #2 on both sides of the engine. Bank 1 or Bank 2 would indicate which side of the engine the trouble is on. ( Bank #1 is the side of the engine that contains #1 Cylinder. Please remember if you are going to change one 02 Sensor then you should change all of them and be sure to clear all codes after all repairs are finished. that will turn the check engine light off. Good Luck and have a good XMASS.

My trunk was kind of bogging down. like its not getting gas, or the catalatic converter. check engine light finally came on.

lol thats nice! you happen to pull a Code for that Check Engine Light? I'm going to guess that when you do you get a Catalytic Converter efficiency low code. If you do replace the Cat & find what killed it, rich condition etc

Mazda 2000 MX-5 convertible, 85000 miles.-check engine light remains on. Have replace the crankcase sensor. stalling quit. Both catalatic converter sensors replaced. do I need to replace the CC now?

It depend on the code. there are a lot of things other than the O2 sensors. Have it scanned and bring the code back to this sight so we can tell what the problem is.

Most Advance and Autozone store will scan it for free.

Hope this helps

Please Help... p0404 and p0137 Error Codes (1999 Saturn SL1)

hey if you truely think it is your egr valve unhook it and if that is the problem then when it is unhooked it should run better and the codes should not come up. hey if you cahnged the 1 o2 sensor and not the other you probably made the code for the one u repalced come up again. i would recommened that you change both of the o2 sensors at the same time. try checking if your catalatic convert is plugged. how you do this is take a dollar bill and hold it at the end of your tail pipe while it is idleing and if the dollar bill stays still you have a plugged catalatic converter.

If you gutted the cats it would emit a lot of bad emissions and a check engine light would definitely come on. I would try to clean the mass air flow sensor.
