You will need to have a scanner connected to the car's computer diagnostics to get the exact error and determine the part of the engine where the problem may be located.

Hi Jeff
Fault code P0456 means evaporator emission control small leak detected.
you need to check the tank filling cap, evaporator valve, hoses and connection for leak.
Good Luck

2003 chevy 1500 hd engine light flashes temporarily when coasting downhill at highway speeds (ie 65mph or faster). When diagnosed, no error codes present.

Does it feel like it is missing when the light is flashing? If not then all you need to do is have a crankshaft variation learn done. This will take care of this problem.Just had a couple of these at the dealership myself and this took care of the problem. If it is missing then check the ignition system like the plugs, wires, and coils. Also check the intake manifold for vacuum leaks.Hope this helps.Good luck.

My 2003 chevy silverado 1500 4wd (5.3 Vortec) has a trouble code (po449 & 455) I know what that problem is but, I do not know where the locations of this problem would be. PO449 is a Evaporative...

The first thing I would check is the fuel cap. Your vehicle uses a closed vent system to control the fuel vapors in the tank and then vent the vapors to the engine intake system to burn. so you have a leak either your purge/ vent solenoid is stuck or open all the time not allowing the on board diagnostics to run the test or you may a bad fuel cap, and it is venting to the atmosphere allowing the gross leak. The purge/ vent valve is under the vehicle next to the charcoal canister.

I have a 2003 Chevy silverado and I'm getting a p0455 code, what's does that mean

P0455 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)
The large leak detected could be in a hose or connector leading to the front under the hood evaporative canister.

It is not a loose gas cap, though.

2003 Chevy Silverado 1500 Error Codes

P0135 is a bad 02 sensor
P0442 is a evap problem
P0449 is a vent solenoid

i would check the vent solenoid first its a 4ws fuse under the hood in the fuse box make sure you have power to it you should have power at all times the ground comes from the pcm i think if you fix this everything else will work they are all computer controled

I have a check engine light on my 2003 chevy truck it reads PO445

P0445 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
The Evaporative Emissions System (EVAP) allows fumes from the gas tank to enter the engine to be burned, rather than vented into the atmosphere as an emission. The purge valve solenoid is supplied switched battery voltage. The ECM controls the valve by operating the ground circuit, opening the purge valve at specific times allowing these gasses to enter the engine. The ECM monitors the ground circuit as well, watching for faults. When the purge solenoid isn't activated, the ECM should see a high voltage on the ground circuit. When the solenoid is activated, the ECM should see the ground voltage pulled low, close to zero. If the ECM doesn't see these expected voltages, or senses an open in the circuit, this code is set.
Hope this helps

DTC P0446 Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Vent System Performance

The vehicle control module (VCM) monitors the performance of the evaporative emission (EVAP) system by applying a predetermined level of vacuum to the EVAP system and monitors the vacuum decay rate. The VCM sets this diagnostic trouble code (DTC) if the vacuum decay rate is more than a predetermined value. The VCM monitors the amount of vacuum and the amount of pressure in the EVAP system by monitoring the fuel tank pressure sensor. For this DTC, the VCM turns ON both the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP vent valve when the Conditions for Running the DTC are met. This applies an engine vacuum to a closed EVAP system. The VCM turns OFF both the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP vent valve when the system reaches a correct amount of vacuum. The EVAP system should quickly RELEASE the vacuum in the EVAP system with the EVAP purge valve OFF and the EVAP vent valve OFF (open). This test indicates a blocked or restricted EVAP vent path if the EVAP system fails to release the vacuum quickly enough.
