I have a tapping sound when the engine is running on my 1991 BMW 750il

It's probably your valves. Are you using premium (super) unleaded? That is what BMWs require.

This is my subaru impreza gx (non turbo) it's just developed a ticking/tapping noise I've checked the oil and that was fine. The noise isn't a constant thing. It seams to get faster when accelerating

You possibly have a valve tap, do you rip on your motor a lot? If so you may have messed up the valve gauge and it could possibly be hitting the piston at a minuscule amount just enough to make a tapping noise.

I have want to buy a 1985 gmc s-15 5sp the guy told me the tap-its need adjusting what is that? it has a constant ticking but he said its the valves.

The tappets are the small levers driven off the camshaft, that push or tap on the ends of the valves to open them.
When the clearances wear, they can be noisy, and are adjustable on many cars(not all).
There can be other ticking sounds that cause this, if he knows its only the tappets get him to adjust them and the sounds may disappear

There is a vacume valve in the lines going to my heater core that is leaking can u tell me what it is called or if i can eliminate it

Hello, if you eliminate the valve you will get constant hot water flowing through your heater causing heat inside the cabin, even when it is switched off, this is if you join the 2 hoses together without the valve. You can even block these hoses but than you will have no heater at all. I cannot remember the correct name but as you call it, heater vacuum valve or bypass tap, with a bit of description should get you the part.

Just had timing belt and water pump done now the tapping noise has got worse. real loud on start up then it is a constant tapping. been told it could b valves needing adjusting. do u have any sugestions...

what type eng????most likely the valve push rods and lifters need changed......they are probably hydraulic and have "collapsed" over the years...hydraulic valves cannot be adjusted as such but could be needing tightened-but not likely...this i an expesive job and you may want to consider cutting your losses....good luck and hope this helps

Fast tapping sound from top drivers side of engine when excellerating fast any ideas?

Tapping on the top of an engine is caused by excess valve tappet clearance.

You can have a worn rocker arm also.

Loose valve tappets usually are the loudest at a constant engine speed. when there is little torgue being produced.

A worn rocker arm with a bearing problem will make more noise during acclleration.

I have a major tapping noise from a 3lt diesel turbo toyota surf .constant loud tapping ,quietens with oil pick up a little. not a knocking just a tapping

lifters noisy, lots of miles on engine?as oil pressure gets higher and engine warms up(everything expands a little and quietens a little)it gets better, try fresh oil thats thicker for worn engines, and or check tappets(valve adjustment)if its applicable to this engine
