Question about 2000 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

99 caravan relay clicking under dash

There is a relay under the dash behing the light switch that clicks whenever an electrical item is turned on or off. It will click about 30 times and stop. The click is not in time with the flasher relay or the turn signal relay. It has it's own beat. I have pulled all the relays from the fuse box under the dash one at a time. Although you can feel the click, the relay that is clicking is not on the fuse box. Nothing seems to have been effected by the clicking other than my nerves.
Any ideas?

Have a no crank 2000 grand caravan replaced starter I've check all wires under hood I've checked all fuses I've even checked all relays that pertain to shut down, starter , under hood and all relays u

Sounds like an electrical problem. The caravan has multiple safety cutouts that prevent the engine from starting. The ignition switch and the neutral selector switch are the two most likely to cause the starter not to turn. The function of these as well as the starter solenoid relay and the battery connections and such can be checked with a voltmeter. Grab a manual at your favorite local auto parts store and begin troubleshooting before you go and buy more parts you may not need.

Turned high beams on 1 night, headlights started flickering, turned back to low, was fine. Now they do it on both, and I hear a clicking coming from behind the dash near glovebox? They do not go out all...

The clicking sound is the headlight relay / thermal limit switch -- probably faulty. The light switch operates this relay -- something could be overheating or the relay coil could be faulty and not holding the realy contacts closed. Sounds like replacing the relay would be the most likely solution.

Headlights wont work. side lights do. i have changed bulbs and light switch and checked fuses.

Check relay is relay box under hoor. Relay should click when you turn light switch on. If no click, pull relay out and get a new one.

Hi, all of my running lights and dash lights are always on in my 99 Silverado. I know I have DRL, but my switch should turn off the dash lights, right? Any ideas on what could be the problem? I think it is...

find the lighting relay, if the dash lights don't go off with the switch then the relay could be stuck, when you find it turn the lighting switch on and off to try to hear the relay clicking, if no clicking the relay is probably stuck, give it a couple of taps before you go buying a new one.

1999 caravan under dash relay clicking

You may want to try pulling connections off BCM (body control module) and cleaning them with contact spray cleaner or similar & re-installing. Sometimes you'll get lucky & this will cure it, without replacing BCM.70846a5.gif

'99 Caravan lights fast flash

:) you already know the answer, its the relay, you will have to replace it. However it isnt under the dash its under the hood. There should be a fuse box, with fuse's and relay's in them. Open the box and you will be able to identify the relay by

1.) its labled
2.) listen to the clicking
3.) touching each one and you will feel a vibration when it clicks.

if you wish you can sub the relay with another one from the same box (be sure its the same kind) to verify it is the relay.

Remove it and buy a new one. Yes you can remove the relay and drive the car, just the lighs wont work :)..
