There are only a few things that cause high idle speeds, one is vacuum leaks, did you use propane to check for leaks? as far as the EGR goes, that would cause the engine to stall if if it was help open, and if it is inop there is no affect at all except maybe an engine ping under load, the same goes for the MAP sensor, the only sensor that can affect this idle is the TPS, that is the Throttle Position Sensor, you need to check the voltage of the signal return on that sensor with the Key on, it should not exceed .90 volts, if it does it can raise the idle speed, another issue on this engine is a warped throttle blade, it can allow air to leak around a closed throttle and have seen idle speeds of 1500 RPM due to this problem, and last but by no means least why haven't u run a trouble code test on this? here is how you do that. Try taking pff your throttle body and cleaning it and also check and see if your throttle cable is tight or try loosening it and see if the throttle drops. Could also be a bad o2 sensor staying in open circut

2001 chevy malibu idles anywhere from 1500-2500 rpm then sputters and dies while driving.

I'LL TRY, GOOD TO SEE SOMEONE TRY AT LEAST ! IDLE SEEMS HIGH, BACK TO BASICS !!!!!! THE AIR & FUEL FILTERS NEED REPLACED, SPARK PLUG WIRES, YOU FORGOT THEM !!! DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR, YOU FORGOT THEM !!! THESE ARE AS IMPORTANT AS THE AIR WE BREATHE !!!!! VACUUM LEAKS, CHECK ALL VACUMM LINES, THOROUGHLY ! THIS LINE COMING OUT OF THE TRANSAXLE PORTION OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD ?????????????????/ YOUR NEED TO REPLACE WHATEVER IT IS, WHAT KIND OF LINE ? METAL, RUBBER , WIRE ??? MOVING ON, GOOD YOU REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR, & IDLE AIR VALVE, & TPS, RECHECK TPS, IS IT LOOSE, ALSO TIGHTEN THROTTLEBODY BOLTS, THE ONES THAT HOLD IT DOWN. SO, CHANGE YOUR FILTERS,WIRES, ETC., MENTIONED ABOVE, CAP & ROTOR, ETC.,ETC.,.........GO FROM THERE, SEE HOW THAT WORKS

High idle after engine is warm. nothing is sticking with linkage.1992 chev k1500 5.7

Make sure the idle screw was not turnned causeing tps sensor to read over the spec limit, the next then is to make sure the idle air control valve is working , a bad valve will cause this problem and last is the stepper motor that controls the idle. some of these around this year used steeper idle control motors instead of idle air control valves and in turn the stepper motor is bad it will hold the throtle plate open to much causing the tps reading to be wrong triggering the engine light to come on. the steeper motor will be boltted to side of the throtlebody and theres a small arm to the throtle linkage. i will enclose a stepper motor picture and an idle air valve to show you, but this sounds like the tps is out of range due to this. the last thing is to make sure there are no vacuum leaks, spray crab cleaner around throtlebody base gasket and also the intake mounting gasket and see if the idle changes is so theres a vac leak in that area. good day. okay just did a little research and this truck does have a idle air control valve, the picture is encolsed and is screwed into throtlebody, check that and for vacuum leaks, make sure tps is good sometime it will test good when testing and go bad when it wants, you could have a bad tps and idle air control valve also.11_27_2011_9_27_54_pm.jpg

High idle o n a 1996 chrysler concorde. have change the tps and the idle air control valve. i think its a vacum line but i dont know which one. which one s effect the idle

High idle is usually caused by a vacume leak. First place to check is the cold air intake manifold. All hoses, throttle body, and sensors. Throttle Position(TPS), Mass Airflow(MAS), Idle Air Control Motor (valve) IAC. Controls Idle speed

A malfunctioning throttle system can cause both a high idle as well as an engine stall.

A dirty air intake or cracked air intake tube is often the culprit.

I have a 1996 mercury mystique with a 2 liter and the car idles high and when i put it in gear it idles low and dies...i have changed the throttle positioning sensor, idle air control valve, mass air flow...

Wow you change everything, TPS was right thing to do and so is the Idle air control, and MAF and EGR, fuel pressure, So it idles high then some one tried to defeat the stall in gear? Even if there is a vacuum leak creating high idle it shouldnt stall in gear, , What color is the transmission fluid? when in gear in drive step on the acelerator pedal to maintain idle to prevent car from stalling. Just enough to maintain let say 1100RPM. Is there a vibration? I mean a torque convertor vibration. Torque convertor stall are common an GM and Nissan, very rare do I ever see it on Ford. I really belive the IAC is not getting power and is just been adjusted manually, cause I know its not the transmission, At idle in gear pull the plug on the idle Air control does it change in idle setting? If it doesnt change in Idle setting the adjustment that was use to control the setting lower the idle to its normal setting. Plug the idle air control in then. The idle air should change the setting. If it doesnt its not getting the signal it should.

THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE NEED ADJUSTING AND THE IDLE SPEED HAS TO BE READJUSTED. THIS JOB IS A HEAD ACHE.I WOULD LET DEALERSHIP DO IT.THEY CAN RESET AND REPROGRAM IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE.IF TRY FIXING YOUR SELF YOU WILL HAVE HIGH IDLING PROBLEMS AND VECHICLE STALLING OUT ON YOU.

High idle

You could have a bad gasket under the TBI that is allowing uncontrolled air to enter the engine or an Idle Air Control Motor that is not working properly.

I have experienced this problem on similar vehicles. You should try and replace the coolant temp sensor. If it is not reading the correct temp to the ecm, it will not get the right fuel map. Also, the cts will not always throw a code.
