The little container that's says brake fluid or dot 3 brake fluid only. But the grinding noise means you need new brakes

The problem is not the brake fluid, it is the brake pads. That sound is the pads grinding against the rotors.....more than likely, you need new pads and either have the rotors turned (if they can) or replace the rotors.

The term "turned" means that a brake shop or equivelant smooths out the face of the rotor by putting it on a metal lathe and shaving down the outside face and the opposite side face of the rotor. It would be cheaper to just buy the new rotors at $18.00 each.

Your rotors are $18.00 each (just replace the front)
Your pads are $14.00 for the set (this set does both sides)

This is a very easy job to do and the brake lines are not being "opened" so there is no need to bleed the brakes.

This will fix your "grinding" noise. Any questions, email me at greg.bernett@mcchord.af.mil

A grinding sound when the brakes are applied is not the resutl of low fluid. It's the result of low pads that need to be replaced. Look at the front rotors and see if there is any scoring, if there is you'll know you need to replace the front brakes. If the car has rear drums you'll need to remove the wheel and drum in order to check it.

The grinding noise probably means you need to put new brakes on. If you fill the brake fluid reservoir, and then change the brakes, the new fluid will run out anyways, because the new brakes will have to be put in, and the fluid will run out.

Emergency brake light comes on and makes a grinding sound

The brake light will come on if your brake fluid level falls below a certain point, indicating you're losing brake fluid. Grinding noise indicates your brake pads are shot. Get to a brake shop.

Grinding sound when turning

if its a grinding/knocking type sound then it could be the cv joint gone bad.the side that makes the noise when you are loading during turning(turning left you are loading the right cv joint and vise versa)that is the side the bad joint is on.it will happen whether or not your foot is on the brake.if the noise happens as strickly a grinding noise like when brakes are metal to metal when applying the brakes then it could be brakes need replacing.also have seen were if the inner fender is loose or oversize tire is on it can rub sounding like grinding.

I just purcahsed a 2003 ford excursion and I heard a whisteling sound yesterday coming from the front left tire while driving. I have noticed a fluid leaking from the left area and I went to stop this...

Sounds like you are leaking brake fluid. The grinding sound may be from the brake pad not disengaing from the rotor because of low brake fluid pressure. Have this checked immediatley you may loose all brake function!!

In my sons 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee there was a dragging grinding sound coming from the passenger rear wheel when you stepped on the brakes. I pulled the drums off and the cylinder was leaking slightly and...

Hi,
Have your son pump the brake pedal until it gets hard. Then as you loosen the bleeder screw at that wheel tell him to let his foot ride the pedal and don't take his foot off until you tighten the bleeder screw.
You see, the pressiure he is building will force the airt out. Do this a couple of times until you get a good stream of brake fluid. He should be able to notice a good pedal again... I'm suspecting he has none or little pedal right now. Make sure you refill fluid in your master cylinder.
I hope this helps... Good luck!

Isuzu Rodeo 1998 foot on brake it makes a metalic grinding noise

you are correct it is the brakes... you could have a rock in them but if its been going on for a long while that is doubtful i suggest getting your brakes checked soon as possible if your brakes are wore down that bad it can actually fall out and cause you to be stranded and also ruin your rotors if they havent already

My BRAKE light came on and I thought it was my parking brake

Rubbing noise usually indicates that your brake pads has worn down, and it's rubbing against brake rotor. It's more like grinding noise rather than rubbing, right? And for the brake light problem, as brake pads wear down, brake fluid level goes down too. Your car is equiped with a brake fluid level sensor. So, check your brake pad first before adding brake fluid.
