The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is a vacuum controlled valve which allows a specific amount of your exhaust back into the intake manifold. It looks like this.I took my van to Auto zone after my service engine - 9d42c16.jpg

Check engine light is on took it to auto zone they said it was my egr valve and i replaced it and check engine light still on........ is it any other sensor that, the egr could have trigger

The check engine light will not go out on its own until usually after 20 or so starts. You need to back to Auto zone and have them hook up the analyzer again and clear the codes (they will do this for free). If the problem was your EGR valve, the light will then go out.

You can get the EGR Valve for $80.00 OEM Motorcraft
Part, on the internet and install your self

The code better be for an EGR Valve issue or
be having issues going up hill under a load or
that isn't your problem

How do i replace the egr valve sensor

The Vehicle would only stop, if the EGR stuck open, momentary at low speed, and dumped too much exhaust into the intake. The entire EGR Valve ,if bad, needs to be changed. The sensor is part of it. Have her find a good shop or a friend do it at home. Pretty easy.
I served in Viet Nam-so take it slow, and be safe

Service engine soon light is on? And what if the egr valve is bad?

Best thing to do is not guess, if there is an Auto Zone around your area. Have them scan the truck for the DTC codes and they can give you the recommended repair to address your issue, and they scan free of charge. The service engine soon light could be as a simple replacement of gas cap to and bad O2 sensor. If irt's your EGR you can try cleaning that first before you replace it since most of the time it's just carbon build up that restrict the pin needle in the EGR to open and close properly, but you would have engine power and idle issues. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your truck running 100% again soon and please rate.

My Check Engine light was on and I took it and had Auto Zone test it.The problem was my EGR.I was wondering where is it located and is this a common problem.

Look on Auto Zone's website for a picture of the EGR valve....usually located near the top rear of the engine. You can try cleaning the EGR with some carburetor cleaner as they usually get pretty fouled up with carbon deposits, just remember to replace the gasket when after you remove it. If cleaning the EGR does not help, you may need to replace it.

2005 grand caravan error code P0400 egr valve chk/ performance

I have the 2005 Town & Country TOURING . If my memeory serves me correct, I believe this was the same code that I got on time. The van didn't seem to drive any different but this is what I did and I haven't seen the light come on since.
first I went to the dealer ( you can get these parts from a auto parts house also) and bought the 3 gaskets total.for the the EGR solenoid vavle assembly where it bolts on to the engine ( that gasket was made from metal), NOTICE AN INDENTATION IN THE METAL GASKET WHEN YOU TAKE IT OFF,YOU WILL WANT TO PLACE THE NEW GASKET IN THE SAME DIRECTION. one gasket that goes between the EGR valve solenoid and the small stand pipe. and another gasket that goes between the stand pipe and where it connects to the plastic valve intake area cover on top of the engine.
I took the EGR solenoid off from the engine and took it apart (reall carefully) and cleaned it thouroughly with a spray carbuerator cleaner. I took mine "completely apart" after I did this I dont recommend to do this again, you can damage the coil inside if you're not cafefully. I suggest just cleaning the valve and plunger ports, etc....
When it was completely dry I reinstalled the EGR solenoid on the van making sure I used ALL NEW GASKETS. The van hasn't produced the engine light since. I hope this helps.

SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON FAILED EMISSIONS

Yes, take it back. The might of replaced the Egr valve to turn off the light. Don't let them charge you for retesting it, that's why you took it in in the first place.

If the replaced the erg valve and the light came back on, you still have a problem, probably different then what they fixed.

2000 Honda Accord EGR Valve Error P0401

Jason,
-after you change the part you have to reset/clear the code

-this can be done by either:
(1) using the OBD2 code reader that Autozone used OR since option 2 (below) is very quick
(2) disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds (this will delete all codes/radio presets/etc) but it will also clear the 'check engine' code
-this is what I do AFTER i write down my radio station presets :)

-hopefully the new EGR valve resolves your issue after you CLEAR the code
...but that code just means a an insufficient amount of Exhaust Gas recirculation (pressure difference) used to keep the emissions in check
-if it comes back, then there are a few other fixes to try also

-let me know if you need further assistance
-please remember to rate me `fix-ya`if it works
thanks
