Re: fan for the a/c - heat will only work on high.
Common issue for many cars, Jeeps big time. Your "Blower Motor Resister" is defective. The reason for only 4 on the speed is the resistor controls the voltage going to the blower motor on the lower three speeds. This is a common problem, don't let anyone tell you it is the blower moter itself. The part should cost between $20-$40, depending on where purchased. The killer is getting it installed, some are easy to get at behind the glove box, others are up in the dashboard harder to get at. Chevy techs should be well aware of this, and be able to give you a good estimate of repair.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Mechanic (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

what mode, heat or cold?
does fan blow?> no "? then replace the fan fuse.
fan blows on high? yes.
then if A/C ? wanted? why not say? then the green light glows
near A/C switch, does it? y/n
yes the does A/C compressor clutch close? and compressor shaft turn? y/n.?
or its heat you want? not stated.
so no heat, is a whole other list. ill try.
1: engine not hot, not 180f min. and holding (y/n)
2: cab fan dead.
3: heater core not hot, (feel the hose there both must be hot)
4: damper stuck closed blocking heater core.
Check to see if you are getting voltage to the blower motor if you are the motor is bad if not check the fan speed switch. 1 2 3 or low medium high if you get voltage going to the switch but not from replace the switch if you have voltage from switch check the blower motor resistor the although with the blower resistor you commonly have a high fan speed in the max setting and the lower speed settings don't work wich would make you think 1 2 3 are not working but 4 is. That is why it is best to check all parts to make sure the part you do replace needed to be replaced
That is the blower resistor. 4 is wide open, so, no resistance. I had 4 of them put into my truck. The wires were burnt and shorted the others until the problem was found. Check the plug if you do this yourself.
hi from uk your heater fan problem is most likely to be what is known as the resistor pack sometimes called the reostat and is connected to fan motor case it has the wires for fan connected this unit operates rather like an elec hob controlling amount of heat if this simplifies it for you? speeds 1 2 3and 4 gives the speed selected on fan control knob not too difficult to find and diy a replacement? and not too expensive ? these units do burn out occasionally on most cars as they age hope this helps/inspires ?
