Something is staying on after the car is turned off. Try putting in a dark garage and check interior lights, glove box, under hood light, etc. Also keep in mind even new parts can be defective.

Olds 88 alternator fuse

You may find a blown fusible link or burnt wire/bad connection at the starter large terminal.I would start the car and check voltage output at the alternator output terminal first in case it's just a bad alternator. If you have 14+ volts at the alternator output terminal, you could also just run a 10 gauge wire from that terminal to battery positive directly and disconnect the alt feed to the starter terminal.

98 dodge caravan. left lights on one night last week and had to jump in morning. today battery light came on once and went right back off but i have noticed van taking a little longer to start

Your battery tried to get back to 12+ volts the night the lights were left on, and that is very hard and often fatal to a conventional battery-the fact that you got it started with a jump and it started later (even though it took longer to start) is a good thing-but your alternator will not properly 'charge' your battery, it should be put on a slow charger ( amp) to properly bring it up to what it is capable of-a deep cycle battery can be fully discharged hundreds of times without major damage, but a conventional battery can only go through this a few times. Charge it up, then if you still have problems up, get the battery load tested (this sees how fast it can recover from a measured load, good for determining how good the battery is). Remember too, kyour alternator is sensitive to how hard it has to work to get the battery up to level-so a deficient battery could cause more expensive problems unless you take care now.

charge it properly, get it tested.

The battery on my 2000 Porsche Boxster is dead and the car is locked. How do I access the interior to release the hood?

The easiest way is to buy a cheap battery charger, one that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket. Allow the battery to charge for a few hours and then release the trunk when it has come up enough. The most likely reason for your battery going down is a faulty alternator. I just went through this problem with a friend. He bought a new battery and it went flat over night. He replaced the ignition switch (common problem), still went flat over night. Even though the alternator was charging great when the car was running, it was drawing current when the car was parked. We ended up getting a brand new alternator off ebay for $135., the dealer wanted $1900., local parts stores about $500.
The alternator was pretty easy to install and it solved the problem.

Hello my name is becca i have a 2000 hyundai accent it was fine one night the next day i went out to start it it wouldnt got a boost it started but once the ground cable was taken off it died in seconds...

Batteries sometimes die completely for no apparent reason even though they were working fine only hours beforehand. Try another / new battery and get the alternator fuse checked, because it should not be obviously split, and replaced if necessary because with the fuse out, the battery will not be recharged. The alternator charging rate appears to be OK but have it checked anyway.

"Like a fool" I thought my battery was bad so I

To know if the computer is still functioning use a OBD2 code reader to scan your car. If you don't have one. GO to auto Zone and ask them to run the obd2 scan. Just a suggestion when you charge a vehicle battery always disconnect it from vehicle electrical system. If the clock and lights check the fuse first. most vehicle systems are routed though the ingnition key, So from that point you would need a wiring diagram to trace the systems that are having problems. The clock and some others are hot at all times this is the place to start checking for problem any system that is hot at all times. Chances are the problems have are not that serious

Got new head gasket installed-not related to prob.after that bat.went dead, new bat and alt. still drains bat overnight. could it be a short in starter?

Check the main alternator fuse. It is either a block fuse in the fuse box under the hood or it is built into the positive battery terminal. If it is blown your battery will not charge even though everything else is in perfect working order and the alternator light(charge light) on the dash will not light up to tell you there is a problem. You will drive a short distance and the battery will go dead. After recharging it will start right up run OK till it runs out of juice again and dies, etc. Find the fuse and check it is not blown. It is a frustratingly simple fix to a hard to diagnose problem.

New battery keeps losing power...

There seems that the current is leaking frm somewhere.
Firstly put off all equipment and ignation.
Keep a multimeter in hand.
Remove all the fuses frm the fuse box.
one by one touch the pin of the multimeter(RED) to one end of fuse solket and the other (Black) pin to the other soket where the fuse sits.
There should be NO reading... keep going from one fuse point to another.... the point wher the multimeter reads while all switches OFF means from tat equiptment the current is leaking... Now check That fuse is for which equiptment e.g. for AC or for blinkers or for headlights etc etc.
Get thet unit checked / repaired / changed as the case may be.

New batteries, voltage regulator, alternator, because they went bad one after another, now i have a 5 amp dran when not in operation draning bateries any ideas

Check the aux fan - notoroius for draining batteries. Also take out each of the fuses in turn and monitor the current drain to see which line is causing it. That will at least narrow it down to one circuit to chase through.
