Check the ignition switch located on the steering column under the dash. If you do not hear an electric contact click when you turn the key on, this could be the problem

My 97 gmc jimmy will not start what could it be

Every vehicle needs three basic things to start/run. Fuel, spark, and compression.

It is pretty easy to check for spark. You can pick up a tester at your local parts store. Check for spark on the wire from the coil and from the wires at the spark plugs. If there is no spark than the coil, pick up coil, module, and PCM can be tested to see what part has failed.

You will need a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure. Your year of vehicle requires a minimum of 55psi to start and slightly less to run. As little as one psi will cause the vehicle not to start.

You can try spraying a little carb spray into the throttle body and see if it will start. If it does you can probably be the fuel pump may be the issue.

Let me know what you find and I'll do my best to help you solve this problem.

Previously posted about 97 gmc Jimmy quit running after stopping at light. I finally purchased fuel filter but now can't get the old filter off. we are using lineman wrenches. But there is no room to get...

ignition coil, u have to slide colites in to remove fuel filter and yes they make a special tool for fuel filters, check for spark also bad crank sensor will not allow spark, pull plug rest against exhaust manifoldconnect wire and look for spark as some cranks it over, it's frustrating i know but i am good at s-10's and u got same beast been thourgh what u are doing patience and email me if needed

1995 gmc jimmy has no spark or feul what should i look for??? It just cranks...

If there is no spark and no fuel I'd look at the crank angle sensor. This detects the motor position and the ecu fires the plugs and injectors respectivly. Is there fuel pressure at the injector rail or no fuel at all?

97 jimmy wont start

Check for a bad distributor cap and or rotor..........a bad cap and or rotor can caues firing (cross fire)across the terminals and introduce spark to the wrong cylinders at the wrong time.......
hope this helps.....good luck!

Have you replaced your O2 sensor? If not, try that.
