Problem could be speedo transducer on right rear side of gear box or transfer case depending on gear box
check wiring to this then remove and check both gear on transducer and gear in gear box/transfer case for wear
if they seem all right possibly transducer itself
these are the comon things

Your transmission has a speed sensor on it ,should be external and visible looking under the vehicle ,also has shift control ,may be all in one, device ,or two seperate ,depending on the transmission, locate id plate on transmission,or part no.on sensor/sensors need exact replacement ,for proper performance, there are a lot of differences from year to year ,and other models ,verify correct replacement part before purchase

What would cause an 02 t&c speedometer to stop working & not shift into overdrive? Codes p1193 & p1684 came up on dash. Van was shifting fine before that

My first guess would be a defective speed sensor in the transmission.
Neither of the codes you mentioned involve the speedo problem. Code 1193 is for a problem with the intake air temp sensor, and code 1684 means the engine computer has lost battery power at some point in time.

No overdrive on a 2.8 pajero and then speedo stopped working

In 2.8 Pajero the speedo receive electronic signal from the VSS sensor, but if the speedo for any reason stop working, O/D will stop work because the Trans ECU needs signal from the speedometer electronics to made the gear change into O/D

1989 Honda Accord speedometer not working. What is a speedo head?

The speedo head or cluster is the part that houses the speedometer and tach, etc. now it may be the speedo cable that comes from the transmission to the speedo head that has broken. If so replace the cable and your back in business. If it is the head you can get them from your local recycle yard.

Where is the speed sensor located on a 1991 Nissan

the speed sensor is on the the tail housing of the transmission, located by the firewall straight down from the back of the engine, it is a round looking sensor on the top of the housing has a 2 wire plug with about a 8 in. lead, but it may not be the problem, I have one also that I think is the speedo itself, this sensor sends the signal right to the speedo and then the speedo have a processor that sends the signal to the ecm.

Check you speed sensor on the transmission, Overdrive wont work without speed sensor, nor will ABS, or Speedometer.. it all boils down to a speed sensor.
