How do i change the fuel filter on a 1992 Ford F 250 7.3 Liter diesel.

fuel filter problems come in slowly as in loss of power. It it just died and will not start I would be looking elsewhere for the problem. A good place to start would be the fault codes to check for cam/crank position sensor faults, immobiliser operation, timing belt condition. If you ran the fuel too low it may have air in the system that will have to be bled out. Best have an accredited diesel shop specialist look at it.

Fuel water separator

Their is a cable with a tee handle on it next to your trans dipstick , always grab the tube with one hand and pull with other or you will break the bracket that\'s attached to it . If this has been done regularly you will not have an issue , the drain tube goes down the engine on the right side and usually soaks your front axle. But if you are replacing the fuel filter you have to remove the air cleaner box and also the silencer box to access the filter . My advise is not to use drain valve , suck out as much fuel as you can and then thoroughly clean out that fuel bowl before you install the filter .I have seen many of these powerstrokes with low power issues stemming from lack of maintenance. Make sure you change your oil regularly 5-6000 miles and if you live in a cold weather state you need to use 10w30 motor craft diesel oil , it works the best with those injectors

How do u change fuel filter on a 1997 F-350 powerstroke ?

1 Open lid/remove plastic cover over fuel bowl .

2. Open drain valve (to the left side at the bottom of the bowl) by pushing it to the left (back of the truck). You may want to attach a piece of 5/16" hose to the bottom of the drain so you can avoid a mess.

3. Unscrew the fuel bowl lid. You may need to use tools to loosen the lid, but I can usually get mine by hand. If u need to u can use a 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen the lid.

4. Remove the old fuel filter and o-ring (from the lid).

5. Close the drain valve on the fuel bowl.

6.This is optional. Fill the fuel bowl about 1/2 way with Standyne Lubricity Formula or a similar product.

7. Install the new o-ring on the lid making sure to follow the instructions for the beveled edge. Lightly coat the new o-ring with fresh diesel fuel.

8. Attach the new fuel filter to the lid.

9. Install the new filter/lid and make sure it is on straight and snug, do not over tighten!

10. Turn the key and wait for at least 10 seconds, especially if you didn't add any additive to the fuel bowl. This will allow the fuel bowl to fill before you start the engine.

You can use filters that come attached to the lid, but don't throw your lid away. You may need it if you go back to the other style filter...

That's it...your done. Hope this helps FixYa.

I have a f350 deicel xl powerstroke. Its leaking fuel under the filter bowl what can i do to repair it. it still runs but boggy. i dont know what to do. i would appreciate any help i can get..i was told...

check if the drain to drain out the water from the filter housing is leaking, its a common thing to leak, the dealer will have it in stock. as far as being told what the leak is, that impossible, unless someone has actually looked and saw where the leak is from. you may need to take a small mirror and a flashight, and look at the drain with the engine running to verify the leak,.

HINO NO4C MOTOR STALLING ,HAS NO DTC CODES ,ENGINE STARTS FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS THEN SHUTS DOWN !Fuel filter replaced, found small amount of metalic in bottom of bowl!Air filter ok and no leaks, some times ok...

sounds like a fuel tank inspection/flush or replacement is on the horizon.... sometimes dirty fuel has contaminated your tank or the tank itself is rusting from the inside out... either way it needs to be addressed... drain the tank analyse what gets drained for particles and water...send the tank to a radiator shop for a complete boil out/inspection....blow out the lines and replace the filter again along with the fuel bowl etc. after that all should be well?
