This will require a bit of testing. You will want to check for spark and fuel. Main things engine needs to run. A voltmeter and ohmmeter or get cheap multi-tester would be great. Test power to and from the fuel pump relay and to pump itself with voltmeter. You can test if relay is good with ohmmeter in ohm setting. You can test fuel pressure at fuel rail with pressure tester or with rag and press valve in to see if it sprays. You should hear pump run for few seconds when key is first turned to determine if pump is running.
Now test for spark. You can remove one spark plug and plug back in to plug wire, lay it on top of engine block so the bottom of plug is next to metal. Then have someone else crank over car and see if there is spark. Do this for each spark plug. Put other back in before removing another one. If all work, then good. If one is bad, it is probably bad plug wire. If two bad, it would be either plug wires, or coil pack or distributor cap depending on what you have. Bad rotor possibly if distributor. If no spark, could be bad coil pack module or crank shaft position sensor you can test with ohmmeter .

I know in the mid 1970s Chevy had a modulator chip inside the distributor that would cause the same exact symptom they cost around $25 and can be found at your neighborhood autoparts store.
A quick check for spark will tell you if this might be the problem

You haven't flooded the engine correct, check the spark plugs. Also, how fresh is the gas? Try shaking the car to get the gas mixed up and try cleaning out the cylinders with a torch to blow out excess gas. You should also either try cleaning the spark plugs or replace them if they look bad. It is starting up fine, correct? The alternator is good, right? I believe it is since it sounds like you didn't drive it long enough to drain the battery but check it anyway. By losing power, did the electronics start shutting off first or did the engine die first as this would show whether the alternator is bad or not. Please answer my questions and get back to me on what shut off first when it died and I will help you narrow down the problem with this car.

good luck

Sounds like the fuel pump going bad. You will need to check to make sure you have the correct fuel preasure for at least 10 mins. You can find a fuel preasure tester at any auto parts store. Same thing happened in my 2002 Escalade, replaced the fuel pump for around $650.00. Good luck

Sounds like an electrical problem to me since you lose power as well when it dies. I would check to make sure I have a good clean ground to the battery to the block.

1988 Nissan pickup and starts up and dies almost suddenly.

it would be a good idea to do a turn-up first before you fire it up. Since it has being setting for 9 years. make sure you put couple of drops of oil in each cyclender
Since you already had it runing and die suddenly, you need to check the timming belt, or replace it. if the car has more than 80,000 miles on it.

Jeep won;t fuel pump installed

try the fuel filter and make sure you have proper oil pressure!! Remeber if you have tried craking to many bad times then the plugs are going to be fouled out!! Means that they are going to be drowned with gas and need replacing!! Also make sure your fuel pump is coming on!! You should hear a hissin or a hummin noise back from the fuel tank!
