Question about 1991 Honda Civic

1 Answer

Car sputters on take off

Sometimes when I take off from a stop my car sputters as if its not getting enough fuel, and hesitates very hard. Most of the time I can just floor it and it will sputter once or twice more then speed off. It seems to only do it at lower rpm. I have replaced my fuel filter already. My car is a 1991 civic hatchback base model.

I keep up on tuneups regularly, but i havent changed my cap and rotor in a while. probably changed those last about a year ago. just changed spark plugs and wires about a month ago, also changed the air filter at the same time. oil changes come every 3-4 thousand miles.

99 Lexus ES300 - Car hesitates & sputters when starting off usually until 2nd gear kicks in & sometimes when going uphill. However, no CEL. Ideas?

The flexible accordion hose that connects the MAF to the throttle body might have a small crack in it. They are sometimes hard to see, especially if in the accordion folds or underneath. Starting off or going uphill will result in enough torque to lift one side of the engine enough to open the crack and cause hesitation.

Acceleration problem

possibly camshaft position sensor in the distributor, or weak fuel fump starts acting up when warm, or throttle position sensor. heat has a effect on sensors and electrical components in some weird and hard to find ways.

Hi, have you done a fuel pressure test ,to make sure you are getting the right amount of pressure to injectors . i think you have a bad fuel pump or a stopped up fuel filter, this is why i said we need a fuel pressure reading. if i can help feel free to re post.

IT COULD BE DIRTY CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS OR BAD SPARK PLUGS + WIRES STOPPED UP AIR FILTER. BUT HAVE CAR SCANNED IT COULD BE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR OR VOLUME AIR FLOW SENSOR.COULD BE MANY THINGS.

Check the vacum lines going to the distributor and transmission. If they are leaking it could be your problem.
