First and reverse share a band. Check for proper torque on the rest.

4 wheel high in tight turns wheel chatter on dry pavement

This is normal for a 4X4 to do, 4WD on a Jeep with out a "full time mode" is only meant for wet and slippery conditions. Leaving it in 4WD on dry pavement can damage the drive line

What model transmission do I have in my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee , 4.0 6 cylinder, 4 X 4?

If it is automatic it could be an A500/42RH, 42RE or an A518/46RH, 46RE
If it is manual it is a 5 Speed (Aisin AX15)

The 4.0L six-cylinder models have either a 42RE or a 42RH transmission. The 5.2L V8 models have either a 44RE, 46RH or 46RE transmission.

How to identify... e

I have a 94 cherokee limited 5.2 v8. which transmissions are come

The 46rh is a hydraulic transmission as where the 46re is an electric transmission. With minor wiring you can replace the 46re with the 46rh but not the other way around. Your transmission would stay in limp mode and wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. So the answer is no.

Overheating

Put in a t-stat. No thermostat can act like a bad thermostat, causing over heating, i too have a 94, it was clacking eradically, turns out it was the t-stat opening and closing about 60 times a minute, so i took it out, it got hot, put a new one in, and no more issues.
