2003 grand cherokee steering column noise

I have a 2003 Jeep grand cherokee making steering column noises. When driving on bumpy streets the columns makes bumping noises. I have checked the front end and everything is fine but when you turn the steering wheel slowly you can hear it making a bumping noise. We have tightened the steering box and it got better, but is still there. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the universal joint on the bottom of the steering collum, put one hand ether side of it an twist see if there is any play in it you can also see if it is stiff/seized these will both cause a noise

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited makes rear noise when turning left?

Could be low on oil, or need a shot of additive if it is a limited slip differential.
The noise may be the clutches in the diff or one of the axle bearings.

Wheels will not turn when steering wheels are turned

Pretty doubtful it is your steering column. When all the junk around it is stripped away, it is a simple steel shaft that connects the steering wheel to the steering box.
You can do what no one online can do for you...Have someone turn the wheel and look at what is moving and what is not. Likely it's something major like the steering box or the chassis where the box is mounted that has failed. Whatever it turns out to be, it's likely to be obviously broken. (easier to find than a squeak or slight noise.
When you find it, ask if you need help with the repair procedure!!!
Good luck!!

Hi i have a grand cherokee 2003, lately when

It seems as though one of your front drive axle universals has failed and locked up. The other possibility would be a dry steering knuckle. Thank you, Dana

When I turn sharp turns my jeep makes a growling noise, like the 4 wheeldrive is activated why? It just started doing this about 6 mos ago

Which transfer case do you have? Does it have AWD or 4WD? Does it only do it while the steering wheel is being turned, or all the way through the turn?

If it does it only while turning the steering wheel, there is a bushing in the steering column that is making noise. I have seen this happen on an '00 and '01. If it is making noise all the way through the turn, and you have AWD, it probably is the front axle. A neighbor of mine had this happen on her '00. Turns out the front axle wasn't filled properly from the factory. Added the appropriate amount of gear oil and noise went away.

If you have 4WD, make sure you're not driving around with the transfer case locked in.

If its a whining noise, check the power steering fluid level and fill if low, otherwise you may have a pump going out or a loose belt

I have a 2005 jeep grand Cherokee and when i turn the steering wheel it makes a clicking noise i believe it may be the turn signal stick that is rubbing up against the steering, also when i lock and unlock...

The clicking noise is coming from the clock spring in the steering column. The clock spring is the connection between the air bag and lower harness. It should be replaced by a certified technician.

Turn Signals Won't Work 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

hi roberto
its probably the small copper contacts in the plastic unit that encompasses the steering column this can be purchased and refitted quite easily by removing the steering wheel, removing the securing screws unplugging the electrical loom plug and slipping over the steering column. replace new unit in reverse . probably caused by over-exadurated movement of the signalling lever
