i have an alternator problem with this vehicle. i have put on a newly rebuilt alternator, and still have a problem with charging. it quit charging again on me just day's after it was installed. the only code i have is for the evaporator canister,so i think it moght be a ground wire aprt somewhere, but don't know where to look for the ground wires where they attach on the body from the battery or computer.

all grounds lead from hood find battery, NEG- side. follow those wires to the engine.there your engine ground.your chassis ground will be close to the battery on the chassis.clean them with baking sode clean battery with it to. works wonders..your computer ground would be under the dash. which sucks.hard to find.remeber anything inside is grounded by the chassis ground.also your engine should have a ground from engine to chassis dont hurt..if your rear lights arent working it may be the ground on the rear lighta themselfs.

Look inside the engine compartment. There are wires around the engine bay, on the fenders/fenderwalls. If it is on the fender, it is a ground. On the engine also. Inside the car, under the carpet, by the kick panels also. Pull the carpet back quite a ways, and look for wires screwed to the metal.

You would check the white red wire going into the tank for reference voltage from the gauge, then see if the sending unit in the tank is grounding the circuit. You should be able to ground the wire going to the gauge and make it move.

No brake lights 2000 mercuary cougar

If any wires were crushed and momentarily shorted, it can damage any lighting/ alarm or other control module in the system. Only thing you can do is physically go over the harness and check for damage, pinched leads or missing grounds. If everything appears good, find the module and replace it (scrapyard part is cheaper than new)

In some 1999/2000 Cougars the wire between the battery and the voltage regulator(altenator) had a resistance reading that is too high. Ford has issued an TSB 00-25-6 that has instructions on how to replace this wire. The part # for the replacement wire is
