Dont think ive ever in my life removed a thermostat and found it open.,but anything is possible, the spring would have to break,or a chunk of your water pump impellar,or rust ,old gasket ;nut or bolt someone dropped in the system by acceident, got stuck in it,if you have the heat on and fog is clouding your windw, then yes its probably leaking enough to relieve coolant system pressure, but if you shut the heat off assuming your valve is working properly it should pressureize

A new thermostat could be stuck open only if its faulty.
This would cause the engine to be very slow to warm up, and probably run too cool (depending on ambient temp).
Pressure in the radiator hose is normally the result of system pressurisation as the coolant temperature increases, (max pressure allowed set by the coolant pressure cap rating).
A leaking heater core would cause loss of coolant to the interior of the car. I suppose if the leak was big enough, it would not allow the system to pressurise at all -but it would be a big leak, and you couldn't drive too long before it overheated due loss of coolant.

It would not affect leaking all its doing is constantly circulating, if the core is leaking its just sprung a leak replace it. open you cap when hot bet theres pressure.no dont really dangerous?VERY HOT.

How to back flush heater core 2007 grand prix

drain coolant system locate heater cores hoses going through firewall you need to buy the radiator flush kit at any auto parts stores. remove heater cores hoses from one end or buy extra long heater hoses same size as heater core hoses in vechicle at auto parts store use the flush kit when you flush through one of the heater core hoses let the other hose drain in a drain pan when you use home garden hose use low water pressure dont use garden hose to the max or you will rupture heater core. your best bet let radiator shop flush whole coolant system. because heater cores hoses are in a tight spot.make sure engine off if you just going to flush out heater core only .after flushing heater core good time to replace heater core hoses.if job too hard or complicated let radiator shop flush out radiator the engine block and heater core because if radiator stopped up or engine block stopped up the gunk and rust will reenter plug up heater core.if you tight on money you can flush out your own radiator.drain out radiator using large drain pan. remove top radiator hose and remove bottom radiator hoses connect to water pump.use garden hose with flush kit part with water pressure not too high put garden hose to top radiator hose run water until clear water run out bottom radiator hose in drain pan,the flush out engine block remove thermostat.if you had another spare thermostat housing with RTV SILICONE SEALANT THAT HAS SET UP INSTALL THERMOSTAT HOUSING BACK TO ENGINE WITHOUT THERMOSTAT FLUSH OUT THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHEN DONE INSTALL NEW THERMOSTAT THEN INSTALL ORIGINAL THERMOSTAT HOUSING WITH NEW ORING WHICH YOU BUY AT DEALERSHIP.IF ALL SOUND COMPLICATED LET RADIATOR SHOP FLUSH OUT COOLANT SYSTEM.

My 1999 Alero must have a leak somewhere because the thermostat gauge rises every few days. I put coolant in it at least 1 a week. I had a new water pump and thermostat put on it, but it is still...

CHECK AROUND WATER PUMP AREA.AND THERMOSTAT HOUSING FOR LEAKS.THE MECHANIC WHO PUT THE WATER PUMP ON MAY FORGOT TO PUT SEALANT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE WATER PUMP GASKET CAUSING LEAKS.LOOK AROUND THERMOSTAT HOUSING FOR LEAKING.IF THERMOSTAT SEAL WAS DAMAGE DURING INSTALLATION IT WILL CAUSE LEAKING.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AROUND RADIATOR .CHECK RADIATOR TOP AND BOTTOM HOSES FOR LEAKS AND CHECK HEATER PIPES AND HEATER CORES HOSES FOR LEAKS.IF ALL HOSES GOOD.CHECK FOR LEAKING CORE PLUGS.

Dodge Ram 1500 - I have no heat. Will replacing the thermostat slove this? If so how do I replace the thermostat?

Hello, No! I'm assuming that the temp gauge is working in truck & you are not over heating. On the passenger side firewall check both hoses going to/from heater core. If both are not warm then it is probably a heating core plug. You will have to replace the heater core.

No heat is there a fuse 2003 f250 is there a fuse for heater

i don't know realy if there is a fuse (though i doubt it) but issues with heatting may be this will help.

If the carpet under the heater core is damp, or if antifreeze vapor or steam is coming through the vents, the heater core is leaking.
Remove it and install a new unit (most radiator shops will not repair a leaking heater core.
If the air coming out of the heater vents isn't hot, the problem could stem from any of the following causes:
  • The thermostat is stuck open, previnting the engine coolant from warming enough to carry heat to the heater core. Replace the thermostat.
  • There is a blockage in the system, Preventing the flow of coolant through heater core. Feel both heater hoses the firewall. They should be hot.if one of them is cold, there is an obstruction in one of the hoses or in the heater core,or the heater control valve is shut. Detach the hoses and back flush the heater core with a water hose. If the heater core is clear but circulation is impeded, remove the two hoses and flush them out with a water hose.
  • If flushing fails to remove the blockage from the heater core, the coremust replaced.

1992 lumina just changed thermostat but temp gauge showing hot and no pressure in radiator hose. also heater core may be leaking is this my problem

that would be a problem Heater core leaks because the stupid plastic nozzles they use and hoses can crack to. Then you would have low pressure. Or if new thermostat is stuck open.

My heater not working, i replaced thermostat and radiator hoses, had radiator flushed and rodded, and still no heat. What is wrong?

Too much blockage in heater hoses or heater core.
Bypass valve may be stuck on "bypass" .

1. Remove bypass "Tees", but don't discard.
Replace with straight-through hose fittings.
The core may start leaking under the water pressure since there is no bypass hose.

Once the heater starts working, put Tees back in place. You need bypass protection or the engine will overheat.

Overheating

did you bleed air out coolant. if you did check engine oil when engine cool .could have a blown head gasket. if it look like milk shake . head gasket leak . reason blow no heat check see heater blower motor working.if yes . heat control unit or heat door not open in dash vacuum line to heat door actutator could be leaking.
