Does it only overheat while sitting? Then the fan motor or relay could be bad. Just follow the fan motor wiring. It is probably in the relay block center.
The fans do not come on when car is in motion. Then thermostat is bad or coolant is bad or water is bad.

Why won't my cooling fan turn on (swapped thermostat, thermoswitch, fan really)(fans work when hard wired to battery). Causes car to overheat in idle.

depending on the year, there should be 3 relays that control the fans.
There's a rad fan relay (4 pins), an a/c condensor fan relay (4 pins), and a fan control relay (5 pins). This allows them to be run at low speed or high speed. Check the grounds behind/under the righthand headlamp.
Check Fuses 57, 58 (30 Amps) and fuse 46 (15A) under the hood, and fuse 3 (7.5 Amps) in the driver's underdash fusebox.

How do I troubleshoot my 1993 Saturn sl1 the fan doesn't work so the car overheats, beings I'm a female, tired of depending on a am , please help

If you know for a fact the cooling fan is why the engine overheats, you would test the relay and the signal from the computer.
The relay gets power from the battery circuit and the key switch, and a ground signal from the computer when the fan is needed.
The engine temp sensor tells the computer how hot the engine is, and when it reaches 220 degrees the computer grounds the relay providing power to the fan motor.
You would need a meter or a test light and the wiring diagram for the circuit to find the problem.

Overheats when idling. relay was replace and still overheats. fan runs when the a/c is on

When the engine heats up the fan should come on at this time. It is must be the relay or switch. There should be different relays for the AC fav and the cooling fan, even if its the same fan. If you have to you can wire it up directly, so when the ignition is turned on the fan will always run.

Fans dont work and overheats 94 toyota tercel

Most systems work pretty much the same. First check the fans themselves by hot wiring them to the battery. If they work, you need to check the engine temp sensor (some vehicles use one for gauge and fans, others use a separate one for fans) relay, and of course any fuses.
You will help yourself a lot by getting either a chilton or haynes manual to show you how to do testing.

1995 ford escort a/c works great, but car overheats while a/c on

The thing to do is to look in your main fuse box under the hood and check to see if the fuse for that is blown. Another solution is to direct wire the fan from the fan itself to the battery, that will help you to determine if its a relay or if your fan motor has gone bad.If its works when hooked direct you can run a wire to theinside of the car and attch it to a toggle switch.
