You'll need the vehicle VIN and contact the manufacturer to find out what the code is (this is of course assuming the radio has/had not been swapped out/replaced since the vehicle was assembled).

I decided to buy a new, surplus Hyundai radio to replace the one with problems. Do I need to go to the dealer once I install it to give the dealer the code so radio & car can communicate?

Hi Marge
I may be wrong.... but

As far as I am aware the Radio doesn't communicate with the car engine management computer.

It just gets 12v from Battery, signal from the Antenna wire and
connects to 2 or more speakers via the wires in the dash.

A security code may be required to activate the device.
This was done to discourage theft.

Connect the unit up to 12v on a workbench & connect a simple wire as a temporary antenna and a cheap speaker or 2 to the speaker output wires.

Saves you the bother of finding out if it works or not before you install in the dash

Good Luck
