Just wonderng about the cat convertor for my 98 honda civic b/c the diagram at autozone looks like it is located in a different place that where i think it is

On the 1998 Honda Civic with the D16Y5 and D16Y7 engines, the Catalytic Converter is part of the Exhaust Manifold. If you have the D16Y8 engine, the Catalytic Converter is separate from the Exhaust Manifold, and is directly between the 1st and 2nd Oxygen Sensors.

Here is a diagram of the D16Y5 and D16Y7 Exhaust Manifold and Catalytic Converter: http://www.4shared.com/document/zvR9UsXJ/1998_Honda_Civic_D16Y5_D16Y7_C.html

How to replace oxygen sensor on a 2001 Honda Civic

before you do anything, let the engine and exhaust line cool down first. disconnet the electrical connector to the sensor, spray some lubricating fluid like " WD 40 " to the thread of the sensor, allow for a few minute then use the right spanner to turn the sensor. here you go, the sensor is now removed. Installing a new sensor is just the reverse. Enjoy it.

How to remove and install new oxgen sensors on a

Stop by your local auto parts store and ask how many oxygen sensors the Honda Civic has installed. They are usually installed on the exhaust pipe before the catalytic convertor, and screw off with an open-end wrench. The heat causes the sensor to be a bit difficult to remove, and you will need to put some anti-seize compound on the threads of the new sensors. Most cars have 2 or 3 oxygen sensors.

Your local AutoZone can also put the diagnostic computer on you car which should indicate whether its actually a bad oxygen sensor, or they will read the error codes to tell you what the problem really is. Best of all, it's FREE.

Check engine light

P0041 Downstream Oxygen Sensors Swapped From Bank To Bank
How does a P0041 code trigger the check engine light? This code will trigger the light to come on under the following condition:

The Heated Oxygen Sensor Monitor, a strategy built into the computer, determines if the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) signal response for a change in fuel trim corresponds to the correct engine bank. If a response from the Oxygen Sensor being tested is not indicated, a trouble code will be set and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) will illuminate.
Possible Causes:
Crossed Heated Oxygen Sensor harness connectors
Wiring swapped from one Oxygen Sensor connector to the other
Wiring changed at the computer connection or in the related harness

Sounds like the fuel system is having a problem. If the exhaust is sooty, then it is rich, possible bad oxygen sensor or mass flow sensor. Else a clogged fuel filter, or weak fuel pump.
