2000 sw-2 starts but wont run .How do you check timin chain

Timing chain failures are not common on these cars, fuel pump relays are. The computer sends full battery voltage to the pump for initial start up only, then switches the power to go through a relay and resistor, dropping the voltage to 9 volts instead of 12. When they go bad, it starts fine, but dies in three to five seconds

231 motor wont start purges gas out of the carb when i try to start it

Start from scratch. Set the #1 cylinder to top dead center. Then pull the distributor and point it to the #1 spark plug. Then you will be able to start the car without the gas spewing. Have a timing light handy and set the timing. Works every time unless the timing chain is stretched. Then change the timing chain. Good luck .

The engine turns over but it will not start, change the fuel pump still didnot work. will the crack sensor be causing the problem

The crank sensor will cause this problem however, have you done a compression check? Do a compression check on all cylinders if you haven't. If the compression is 0 or low on more than one cylinder then I would look at the timing beltas a problem if the vehicle has over 75,000 miles and has never had the timing belt/chain replaced. That is more likely the problem unless your fuel pump is not powering up, check the fuse it is not uncommon for a new pump to cause an old or weak fuse to blow.

Stalled at a light, wont start. pumping gas pedal with no fuel smell. Turns over, lots of spark. Changed fuel pump, but this did not remedy problem....what else could it be?

The woodruff key for crankshaft may have sheared so the camshaft wont turn, or the timing chain tensioner may have failed.A compreesion test is advised.

Truck stopped running as I was driving and won't attemp to cranck.

wont turn over or wont start, if it wont turn over your alternator probably came unpluged or went out then drained your battery, if it turns over but wont start you lost the timing chain

Check to make sure the Security light in dash on right hand corner is not on. If it is on , your passlock is enabled. to dissable it turn your key on but not start it and wait for apx 10-15 minutes. this should re-set it.

Wont start? Have someone get in the car and turn the key to the on position,At this time you need to be back near the gas tank to listen for the electric fuel pump to turn on .Repeat turning key switch on and off a few times to be sure you hear the slight BUZZ sound turning on and off .If you dont hear anything then your fuel pump is bad.Fuel pump and timing chain almost never go bad at the exact same time.Your shop is probably scamming you to replace the timing chain...although mileage wise it should be changed soon.Dont crawl under car ,open gas tank cap and put your ear near opening.

Have you checked your initial timing? Have you checked your fuel pressure at Idle? Have you changed your fuel filter? How was the idle before you changed the camshaft and lifters? What steps did you use to adjust hydraulic liters, did you turn them down 3/4 to 1 full turn after you set them? Maybe you have too large of a camshaft? Maybe you have a vacum leak?
