Replace your distributor. The contacts to the tfi module are corroded and not making contact.

1988 Ranger 2.9 L turns over but will not fire.

Is the ignition module on the side of the distributor, as in earlier year fords? That module would be something to have tested at a parts store. Long ago (and far aw...) I had to buy a 7/32 deep socket to get the darn thing off (thinkin' about it-was it 5/32, shucks.)

HAVE CHANGED OUT CAP, ROTOR, COIL, module ON MY 1987 ford ranger and it still will not start

check plugs and wires. if you have a spark, check timing, then move onto fuel system to check for fuel supply and pressure

I have a 1987 ford ranger with a 2.9 liter I pulled it in the shop to change the plugs and now it won't start its got spark from the coil but not to the plug wires

It could be a bad cap or rotor or possibly the distributor not turning. Pull the cap off and see if the rotor spins when the vehicle is being cranked.

No fire mech changed mod on dist what next

Re-check the basics . Does the distributor rotor rotate while cranking?Note: Distributer cap must be removed. Does the vehicle have enough available spark to plugs? Do we have enough fuel pressure 30-35psi min.? With a 12volt test lamp
check for power to fuel injector while cranking. one wire should
remain lit and the other one should blink.
NO ROTOR ROTATION = worn distributor gear,or timing belt failure.
NO SPARK= bad module, coil,no voltage to coil,or faulty PCM
RELAY.

1987 Ford Ranger. Won't fire.

Ignition module comes to mind. If you've tested for spark (holding spark plug wire near the block when cranking) and the cap and rotor are good, it seems the module is the only other area left to try. Best of luck Patrick. Please post back with any other questions.

1998 ford ranger ignition problem

Do a basic check of the ignition system if you have a cap and rotor take the cap off and take a look.make sure the coil wire is not burnt, remove it and look.but more than likely the ignition control module is bad.you can scan the computer for codes and that might get you closer.hope it works have a good day DB
