Cylinderhead torque settings

I'm not sure what engine you have in your 95 grand am SO I will give you both the 4cyl and 6cyl Specs. Also you didn't ask for the torque sequence. I will include that as well for both. 2.3 DOHC Quad 4cyl: Torque sequence---> front ' 7 3 1 5 9 ' of engine ' 8 6 2 4 10 ' Step 1: torque bolts 1 thru 6 (26 Ft/Lbs & 90 degree turn) Step 2: torque bolts 7 & 8 (15 Ft/Lbs & 90 degree turn) Step 3: torque bolts 9 & 10 (22 Ft/Lbs & 90 degree turn) Recheck final torque in sequence *** CAUTION *** This engine uses "Torque To Yield" (TTY) head bolts that means they permanently stretch during the initial installation. New head bolts must be used when cylinder head is replaced or re-installed in order to obtain proper torque. 3.1 liter V6 Torque sequence--> ' 6 2 3 7 ' ' 5 1 4 8 ' Step 1: torque bolts in sequence to 33 Ft/Lbs Step 2: turn an additional 90 degrees Recheck final torque in sequence *** CAUTION *** This particular engine uses "Torque To Yield" head bolts(TTY) (that means the bolts permanently stretch during the initial installation.) You MUST use NEW head bolts when replacing or reinstalling the cylinder head in order to obtain the proper torque.

Cylinder head torque specs fro 2002 dawoo

Hi Chris, I think (but not 100 percent sure). Cylinder head, torque to 19 nm, loosen 90 degrees. Retighten to 29 nm. Paint spot of white paint on front of bolt head and tighten additional 90 degrees and then another 90 degrees (Total 180 degrees) You won't be far wrong anyway. Loosen head from outside working to center. Tightening is opposite starting from center spiralling outwards. Follow tightening sequence in steps, not in one movement. I would tighten as follows; 19 nm then loosen 90 degrees, tighten to 29 nm, mark bolt heads with paint and turn each bolt 20 degrees until 90 nm and then continue tightening to full torque. Regards John

Loosen Headbolts in this order:

1 5 4
3 6 2

Tighten Headbolts in this order:

3 1 6
5 2 4

Following the tightening order, torque Head Bolts as following:

1. Torque All to 22 Ft Lbs
2. Torque all to 51 Ft Lbs
3. Loosen all 180 degrees
4. Loosen all 180 degrees
5. Torque Center Two bolts to 25 Ft Lbs
6. Torque Outer 4 bolts to 11 Ft Lbs
7. Tighten all bolts 90 degrees
8. Tighten all bolts 90 degrees again

Make sure you tighten all of them down the first 90* and then go back and tighten them another 90*. Also make sure you put some lube between the bolt and the washer, and put some sealant on the bolt threads. Use GM Thread Sealant.
