I have a 97 Suburu Legacy Outback, AWD.... 204,000... I am starting to get what sounds like front right vibration when taking off and a constant ticking sound, it isn't motor related because when idle, no sound.... It's mechanical but I don't know where to start. I have recently changed front right bearing....what are your thoughts, please help

This is the 1/2 shaft spline. Also called a CV joint.
it is recommended to change both front shafts at the same time.

You can get MAF sensor at dealership but expensive or can buy used, cheap on subaruoutback.org forum. Same for steering rack. However,,Rockauto also has good prices on new parts.

AWD went out in my 1998 Subaru Forester?

This recently happened to my 98 Subaru Legacy Outback.
My problem is in the rear differential. May be the same for you.
When making a turn, the car sounds like a Star Wars T.I.E. Fighter. The outside wheel is not turning fast enough to keep up with the inside wheel or vice versa. AWD is disengaged and car is currently operating on Front WD. I was told this is fine to drive this way.

Grounding issue? Fusible link? 1997 Subaru Legacy won't start

Yea i would check the fusible link. Check all the wires at the alternator and to the starter. Take them loose and clean all connections. Check all body to chassis and engine to chassis/ body grounds. If they look weathered make some and replace or just add some. With the age of it you could have highly corroded wires.

97 subaru legacy outback 2.5 vibration only at idle in gear

I would suspect a mount. Either motor or trans. Also check lateral mount on top of motor to firewall. Good luck and have a great day.

1997 suburu outback NO AWD, only pass front spins

this transmission has a known fault with the awd section of the transmission, it is quite common to find the fuse out, because at somepoint in the life of the car an expensive repair was required and the owner did not want to do it, no fuse awd does not work end of problem. Put a fuse in, if the vehicle then judders on full lock in reverse or going forward, the fault is the awd solonoid block, depending on how long it was run in this condition, will depend on how much of a repair will be needed. Find a reliable transmission repiar shop and get a quote, not knowing were you are i cannot say with local prices how much it would cost. Hope this helps.
