Car shuts down

I have a 1989 Dodge shadow 2.2L,the problem is i can drive the car for a day or 2 or maybe only an hour or more and then it'll shut right down the rpm gauge is bouncing up and down on its own when the problem starts.I've replaced the sparkplugs, cap&rotor and put a new gas filter on and i've checked all the relays and sensors and their all fine although trouble code 11 and 14 come up 14 is the map sensor voltage too low or too high but i've tested the map sensor and its fine i don't know what else to do and not sure what to check on trouble code 11?also the fuel pump comes on so thats not a problem unless its a dirty screen not sure, any help would be appreciated at the end of my rope Thanks.

Code 11 is just saying that it is starting the testing basically..... the problem could be 1 of 3 things the pick up in the distributor ... round black think under rotor with wire plug coming out of it,,,,,, 2. coil, 3 the black rectangular box behind battery . this is where relays are located

Have a 2003 dodge intrepid 3.5 . the engine sounds a little rough, after running for a few minutes the check engine light comes on as well as the oil light.the car shuts off and will not run untill maybe 30...

You need to get the codes read. My guess would be some sensor is sending an overheating code to the computer which in turn is protecting the engine by shutting it down. If you don't have a reader, most auto parts shops will do a free read for you.

I would look for spark, you may have an ignition problem. it would be a sensor that goes into your distributor, the plug should be a round one with i believe 4 wires.

Engine shuts down after it has been running for awhile

You are on the right track. The ignition module on that car is affected by heat and can cause those very symptoms. That is where I would start.

I have a 1989 Dodge Shadow with 2.5L engine. It will shut down after about 10 minutes of driving it. Then while you are on the side of the road it will start up in a few minutes and go about 1/4 of a mile,...

A common cause for symptoms you describe was a faulty hall effect pick-up plate in distributor. Sits under rotor and has wire coming out side of distributor with round plug on end. I'd replace that.
About $35 at autozone.

It will start some times and not other and shut when running

Check ASD Relay (Automatic Shut Down) Kills fuel and spark. Computer could be telling it to shut down, but usually Relay is bad. Key Switch could also be bad, get a good manual and a VOM (Volts, Ohms, Milliamps) meter, and make sure you have juice both coming in and going out, in the respective key positions. Jiggle wiring while testing, to check for loose connections

Car shuts down at the same distance from home while I drive

You need to perform an OBDII scan due to your cars age. Get a print out of fault history. Let that be your guide to any parts replacement. My personal Honda Accord is a 1989 and my rule is regular replacement of air filter, fuel filter and a can of B&G44K fuel additive. B&G is the best on the market and is only available at dealerships (11.00 a can at Toyota) Do not substitute. Do these 3 things every 30,000 miles for continued performance.
