I can't shift my 94 Camry out of Park. Any

All of a sudden, I can't shift my 94 Camry out of "Park." Any suggestions?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Of course you know, I assume, you need to turn the key to ON and press the brake. Right? There is also a button on the shifter (I think) that defeats the brake interlock and lets you shift without pressing the brake, for when the battery is shot. Any help?

Do you normalie have to have your foot on the break to get it out of park? if so the problem is properly in the stop light switch (located at the back of the break pedle)

A 94 toyota camry le 2 door v6 transmission drive gears not workin but park and reversole do

There are really only 2 possibilities which are within your reach

- low trans fluid level, check that with engine idling
- poorly adjusted shift linkage, see p69 here

http://www.turboninjas.com/camry/ax2.pdf

If anything else has failed, like a shift solenoid, it's really a job for a specialist.

94 dodge spirit v6 shifts suddenly at 20 mph, seems to down shift then up shift twice?

You may be low on tranny fluid. Check when hot & in park. You may need to have the tranny filter replaced & the low- reverse band adjusted. Specks are found in a haynes or chilton manual. Hope this helps. Good luck!

No. There is no overdrive button. When you look at the transmission gear indicator, you will see P R N D (inside a circle) D, etc.
