1989 f150 has wierd fax noises on am & fm worse at low end of band. worse in am than pm

Check if noise is only present with motor running -
if so, may be radio interference generated by the alternator - check alternator suppressor capacitor is ok.
If noise is present when ignition on but motor not running, the interference is possibly being generated by some other electronic device on the vehicle - disconnect device/s or remove fuses and note effect.
Mobile electronic equipment such as phones/ satnav etc can also generate interference.

What causes a transmision to slip in low gears


Your transaxle needs to be rebuilt

Bands are adjusted when a unit is built
& do not wear enough to need adjustment

Your transaxle has the hightest failure rate of any
I know of, none worse,there may be some others I
have no experience with or problems I don't know of

I would part with it & not make an expensive repairs on
that perticular vehicle or any van type transaxle

All transmissions fail whenever the fluid is not changed
every 3 years & in your case your unknowingly doomed
out the gate

I would suggest you go to a trans shop & ask a lot of questions
before every buying any vehicle, even a new one,that is what I do
& I used to own a trans shop & still recommend it.

This can be a serious fault in the RF receiving stages as the signal processing being weak the AFT- auto frequency tuning- seems to HUNT around and also produce the squelch - mute activated with low signal.
This might need a signal test in the front end section and so you might help. But before you pull out the set a possible chance can also be a faulty ANTENNAE. If possible remove and check on the wores, connectors and the antennae. Try with another working one or try this in another set to confirm.

Have a Ford F150 Custom / w 300cu Fi motor. Just tuned & installed new CO2 sensor. Everything checks out but acts air starved! Where is air mix on this motor?


in throttle body-probly need a cleaning with a nonchlorinated solvent and also idle air control motor and area needs the same-car is 22 yrs may be 1st time--do some other PM as well as a scan-parts places dont perform OBD I these days-mostly diagnostics II

At 40 to 50 mph I hear a whine coming from the rear of the truck, I have put two quarts in the rear end thinking it was low but it getting worse.


Noises are tricky. It could be a lot of things. If your are sure that the noise is in the rear end, consider U-joint harmonization as a possibility. They could be worn. You could be hearing bearing wear and there is no "band-aid for that, you just have to get in there, determine which bearing it is and fix it. You might be hearing noise from the gears themselves. Again, once a gear wear pattern is set, it's there until you replace the gears. Listen to hear if you are only hearing the whine under acceleration or under deceleration (no brake) that will help determine if you are hearing a gear wear pattern that is on the drive or the coast side of the gears. Sorry there's no quick fix additive that I know of but hopefully this helps guide you to the root cause.

Check the heat shield to the exhaust manifolds, good chance that the bolts on them have rusted off or is loose causing the Heat Shields to rattle making the tinny rattle noise. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know if that's making the noise, and if not we can look at other things.
