Question about 1996 Nissan Maxima

I have a 96 nissan maxima that keeps shutting off either while idling or when I come to a stop, but it doesn't do it all the time... anyone help

I have a 96 maxima with a strange overheating problem! i changed the thermostat, radiator, coolant temp sensors and the water pump but the temp gauge goes up when the car is in idle but when i press down...


Hey, I see this kind of problem all the time. You should check to see if your radiator fans are coming on at idle. Because most likely they are not so that's why it over heats while it is at idle....there is no cool air cooling down the engine. Hope this helps!

I suspect you have two separate issues your lights staying on is possibly a faulty stop and tail light bulb check both , I suspect you may also have a faulty starter motor.

you could try raising the idle. if that doesn't work you could change your fuel filter.

My car is a nissan maxima 96 .engine 3.0l v6 efi sometimes run good but when i stop is turning off .you guys told me is the ignition module.the auto parts people said this car don't have ignition...


Make sure there is no vacum leak on the engine. Also, I had the same issue because of a crack in the rubber intake hose. Idled real low. would shut off when you come to a stop.

Car wont hold an idle and shuts off after u start it,idle drops down to 0 when i take my foot off the gas


Have your idle air control valve and throttle position sensor and mass airflow sensor checked

blown head gasket. black smoke means that oil is getting into the cylinder.
