Question about 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser
My 2002 PTCruiser squeals and slips in and out of gear. It's an automatic.
It happened when coming off the highway onto the deceleration ramp. I came to a stop and when I hit the gas, the car acted like it was in neutral. Just revved. Then it started to squeal and went into first gear. During this drive, the car would go in and out of gear, squealing when it went in gear.
The squealing gets higher in pitch the more the engine revs.
No leaks. Trans fluid and oil look good. Whassupwitdat?

If the fluid is full , it sounds like the trans pump is loosing prime. If it is there will be a code set. The code will not always turn on the light. Go have the codes checked. If it does have a loss of prime code in the trans computor and the fluid is full then you will need the trans pump replaced

Sounds to me like a dry, loose or worn serpentine belt. With the motor idling, lightly spray the serpentine belt as it's spinning with WD-40 or other oil based lubricant (Don't spray near the alternator). If this doesn't work, turn the mortor off and check the tension and for cracks or worn spots. The brakes will not squeal when you are completely still.
