The best way to turn over the engine is from the bottom pulley IS the battery good if so dose it turn it over at all ,,if not only a clunk then take out the starter motor But first remove either battery term ..
then turn over with a big scewdriver in the flywheel teeth and turn either way ,,and if turns ok you need a starter motor if not then you need a motor
Sorry mate.

1998 dodge dakota(318 eng will run until warm or hot and if you turn off motor. will not crank back up . motor spins just wont crank ...bottom crank pulley eats up belts also------where is the crank...

The crank position sensor is behind the pass side head, just above the bellhousing, just about were the trans dipstick is located but I would get a compression check at a reputable mechanic shop. It may be due to low compression. The crank sensor should show a code.

1998 dodge dakota 4x4 5spd 3.9l-cfank but wont

Do you have spark?
Do you have fuel?
Which are you missing?
TIP.A quick check for spark.........give it a spray of starting fluid....if it runs....you've got spark.
No spark usually means......a bad coil or ignition module on the 3.9.
No fuel is usually caused by a bad fuel pump.
