Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel, slow with no power

I have just bought a 106 1.5 diesel, and driven it home. It seems very slow, with no power - infact I struggled to get up hills without changing down to 3rd. Is this normal? thanks

No its not right, either change the fuel filter and air filter .if still no joy then get someone to check the injector pump timing because it sounds like someone has changed the timing belt and not done it right..the cam and pump are locked up with a 8mm bolt through the gearwheel into a indent hole behind and ???sounds like weekend mechanic job ,couldnt or didnt know how to sort ot or what they done ??so flogged it quick

How do we time a 1998 1999 106 peugeot diesel car

if i remember rightly then their are holes in the timing gears which you push a 8 mm drill bit through to lock the gear wheel for the timing pump and the camshaft into position ,the crankshaft keyway points to the top of the engine ,make sure you turn engine over 360 degrees after fitting the new belt by hand to ensure the valves clear ,look at the gears and the back behind the gears for the locating hole ,think the cam is 90,to the right and the pump is to the left m,sorry iam and suffering from old timers so memory is not what it was

Peugeot 106 Diesel No power

Assuming that the timing settings aren't 180 degrees out you might be sucking in air in the fuel line.
