What would caused myJeep to burn excess fuel only averaging 9 miles to a gallon.

The first thing to check is the oxygen sensors. They are supposed to be changed every 65 thousand miles or so.

I am considering buying a used 2000 VW new beetle (88k miles, $3200). The seller says that the head gasket has just been replaced, and that the mechanic said the engine will make the knocking/clunking...

I don't know what the knocking sound is, or how serious it might be, but the fact that you are being given an explanation that is clearly untrue is worrisome. I would not buy this car unless first I took it to a VW mechanic and found out what the noise really is so I could evaluate the value of the car accordingly. Unfortunately, it may not be possible to diagnose the noise without tearing down the engine.

1999 v w beetle t d i with 166000 whats it worth

Depending on condition, location, mechanical condition, and features, right around $4000 private party sale. This is based on excellent condition of the vehicle. Now those Tdi are great little engines and will continue to run for a long time if properly maintaned.

Hi, There is the relay panel which is located in the dash board, driver's side, just above the pedals. You would need to use a Torx Driver No.20 to open the panel above the pedals. Cambelt

Hi, I'm not sure exactly what kind of help you are looking for, but is it possible that miles and kilometres are getting mixed up?

Of course km might be "kilometres" or it might be "thousand miles" if someone hasn't been careful with their words.

92,000 miles isn't far from 120,000 kilometres, and if there is any doubt it is always better to get the cambelt changed too early than too late - that's when you need to buy a complete new engine.

Hope this helps you. D.
