Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If the Speedometer is working then it means that all the information necessary for your ODO to calculate mileage is available.

On the PCB there is a speedo buffer, which translates electrical pulses into movement of the dial, or creates electrical pulses from a spinning cable, and translates to dial movement. Also check for a small white gear in the instrument cluster.

I’ll suggest you to check this and if that doesn't help then replace the odometer as it is quite old.
Please follow this procedure for removal & installation--
Removal procedure---

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the 2 instrument panel top cover screw caps and screws. Carefully remove the cover by lifting at the rear edge to disengage the retaining clips and by sliding the panel out of the windshield clips.
  3. Carefully remove the center air outlet/trim panel by pulling outward at the clip locations. Start at the bottom and move upward. Do not use tools that might damage the trim panel.
  4. Open the glove box, then remove the 4 cluster trim panel attaching screws from the top of the panel.
  5. Carefully pull the cluster trim panel rearward to disengage it from the retainers, then remove the CPA device and unplug the electrical connectors from the instrument panel lighting and rear window defogger switches. Remove the panel from the vehicle.
  6. Remove the instrument cluster retaining screws, then pull the cluster out sufficiently to unplug the electrical connectors. Unplug the connectors by depressing the retainer legs and remove the assembly.

Installation Procedure—

  1. Connect the wiring harnesses to the instrument cluster assembly.
  2. Verify that the connectors for the instrument panel lighting and rear window defogger switches are properly positioned, then install the instrument cluster assembly and retaining screws.
  3. Position the cluster trim panel and engage the electrical connectors to the panel lighting and rear defogger switches, then install the CPA devices.
  4. Install the cluster trim panel into the retainers, then secure using the retaining screws.
  5. Install the center air outlet/trim panel by pushing at the clip locations.
  6. Install the rear of the instrument panel top cover into the windshield clips and snap the panel into position. Install the upper panel screws and screw caps.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

I have a 1998'Ford Explorer and half the dash lights are out and all pod a sudden my speedometer just quit. Need to know what fuses would go to these, so I can try that. Ty

Sorry but it's not a fuse problem . There is not a fuse just for the speedometer . The microprocessor inside the instrument cluster determines where the speedometer needle points , just like the fuel gauge , tachometer etc... Having the vehicle checked for DTC'S would be the proper step to take .
Vehicle Speed Signal
The vehicle speed signal is generated by the rear anti-lock brake sensor and sent to the 4-wheel anti-lock brake system (4WABS) module. The 4WABS module sends the vehicle speed signal via circuit 679 (GY/BK) to all systems which require a vehicle speed signal input.
Speedometer
The electronic speedometer receives a speed signal from the 4WABS module.

1990 HONDA CIVIC DX ENGINE LIGHT ON

More info needed. Is this a hatch back, sedan, or CRX? Is the odometer mechanical [old style] or digital [LCD numbers] The vehicle speed sensor [located behind the speedometer in the instrument cluster] drives both the speedometer and the odometer [mileage meter]. It sounds like an electric problem in the instrument cluster. Remove the instrument cluster and take it to your local speedometer repair shop. Look in the yellow pages for them. Or simply buy and install a used instrument cluster from a junk yard.

1997 Saturn SC2 speedometer is stuck at 40mph. Replaced Speed Sensor and is still stuck. I even tapped on the cluster and got the needle back to zero but after driving it got stuck at 35mph. What else...

The mechanism or needle in the actual speedo display is sticking, is the needle hitting the glass? It is likely that you will have to change the instrument cluster.

2005 Saturn Vue, no light in odometer, is odometer working? All other lights working on dash.

Hi:
the dash has seven or eight small bulbs illuminating the entire area, and approx 3 of them are for the speedometer/odometer area.

It seems odd that those are the first to go, but most likely the problem.
It often requires removal of the instrument cluster to swap bulbs. not too bad, but sometimes tricky.

Odometer quit working but speedodometer works all gagues work need to know what to check

The odometer is driven by a small electic motor. It receives the same signal the speedometer receives. If the odometer motor is no longer functioning, I'm affraid the entire instrument panel cluster will have to be replaced.
Any other questions, let me know.
