It depends on which light you are referring to. If it was the oil pressure light and the oil level was low, then adding the oil to the right level should have made the light go out unless there is another issue. If the light you refer to is the check engine light, however, then I would suggest taking the vehicle to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for any fault codes stored. The check engine light is to alert you that the computer has noted a fault in one of the car's systems and getting the codes will show what the computer has identified so corrective action can be taken. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Most autoparts stores will do the scan for free.

Probably not. to make sure you need to go to a shop and get them to hook up the diagnostic machine to it and check the codes

Oo.comi bought 1996 grand jeep v8 the oil was not change as it was needed & it is stopping up the oil pump whAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FIX IT WITHOUT TAKING THE OILPAN OFF

Right off, I know you won't like my answer but in reality, you do need to remove the pan, inspect the pump pickup screen, the pump gears and end plate (or just replace the pump) and inspect the engine bearings (remove lower caps, use plasitgage to check clearances, replace and re-torque bolts).
I'm assuming you have a low gauge reading (or oil light on), or, the engine is tapping or knocking.
You need to verify the actual oil pressure by installing a mechanical pressure gauge (yours is electro-mechanical). If actual pressure hot is 15psi or lower at idle, then the pan needs to come off and you need to find out the reason.
Without removing the pan, only thing you could try would be to get five quarts of engine flush, disable the ignition so the engine does not start, crank it over for about thirty seconds and then let it sit about a week. Then, drain the pan and add new oil and perhaps some marvel oil along with it. I'd be concerned about any undissolved carbon though as it can actually plug up the system worse than before. (why pan removal is better).

Just Had truck serviced oil ,lube, etcHas 99115 Miles ,Check Engine light comes on

The check engine light is on because the ecu has detected a fault in on of the sensors of your jeep. Have the trouble codes read from your jeep to determine which sensor is bad.

Life expentancy of 1996 grand jeep cherokee engine

If the engine doesnt smoke to much and if you dont have to add much oil between oil changes and you cant hear any unusal noises from the engine you should be able to run that car for many more miles. My dad has a 92 Jeep Cherokee and he over 300,000 miles on it and it still goes as long as you take care of it with regular oil changes you should have no problems
