Question about 1987 Volkswagen GTI
A friend of mine tried adjusting my timing, the first time it was too high so i took it back to him and he moved the distrutor to lower it and now its wanting to die when im stopped, its cutting out when im driving and its slightly back firing.
Your friend needs to rent a timing light from AutoZone. With luck, AutoZone will lend it free of charge as long as you leave a $$ deposit which will be returned in full when the timing light is returned.
Have AutoZone look up what the timing is.
Probably 8 degrees before top dead center.
(8 degrees BTDC).
The timing light is easy enough to use, or learn if first time.
