Question about 2005 Ford Taurus

ABS & Check Brake System comes on occasionally

2005 Ford Taurus SE - 68,000 miles
ABS & Check Brake System occasionally comes on. Had new pads and rotors put on, along with bad ground wire replaced. Still comes on.

The check engine light is now staying on too, until it is reset. Computer system checks out okay. I had 2 mechanics check this out.

Thanks for the solution post. My brother has a computer diagnostic code gadget. By the time I get to his house it isn't doing it anymore and reads ok. When the Check Brake System and ABS lights come on, it will beep at me a few times then go away. With the check engine light staying on, it reads everything ok as well. He resets it, it goes off and comes back on every couple of days now. I put fuel injector fluid in and thought maybe that would work the kinks out....no luck!! I emailed Ford, no reply yet.

It has done it about once a week here lately. It did stop for about a month after I had the ground wire replaced...thinking that was the problem. I will check into that. Thanks for all your help!! :) I will post what I find out.

Ok...my 2005 F150 Check Engine light comes on and off every few weeks while my Brake and ABS light are on all the time. I reset the system by removing the battery cables and the check engine light went off and 50 miles later is still off while the brake and abs light remain on. Had it scanned 2x's and the only error was related to the Cat converter the 1st time and something about fuel injector the second time. Nothing related to ABS or brakes

well if its not doing it on a regular bais you might need to take it into ford, they can read what we call history and pending codes and you can go from there, intermitten codes are a technicians worst nightmare as they can often be alot of troublesome work to fix

Ford taurus 1996 3.0 ABS ligth on

Hello, These warning lights are pretty accurate. Autozone, Advance, and Oreillys give free scans although the engine system and brake system can require different scanners.

Check your brake fluid level first. The ABS system requires sensors which require counting the revolutions of each wheel. Sometimes the sensors may break, but they can be blinded by dust and debris.

If you have a broken brake pad, the warning light can come on. Often the Emergency brake pad, inside the rear Rotor, can fall apart and trigger an ABS warning.

You need to inspect both the front and rear brakes or take your car to a brake shop for evaluation. Sometimes you can get a free estimate, and some shops can charge for inspecting the Emergency brakes because of the work needed to reach them.

I replaced my brake pads & rotors but now i have no brakes

Assuming you put everything together correctly, you may have let air in the system. Follow the brake bleeding procedure for your car. Becareful with ABS systems the fluid can be under very high pressure. Get pro help if you don't know how.
