Question about 2000 Mazda MX-5 Miata
I am having somewhat the same issue. At first the car would just stall while running down the road normally when i was braking or coasting to a stop; I replaced the fuel pressure regulator, and that seemed to fix that problem. Now the problem is the car, at times, just won't start at all. Sometimes it cranks right up, then other times it just cranks and cranks with plenty of electrial power, but won't kick over. I let it sit for 20 - 30 minutes, come back and it cranks over and starts. Whenever this happens I can smell a fairly strong gasoline odor from the engine compartment. Other times I keep cranking and eventually it starts and runs very roughly. I have bosch plugs, and haven't replaced the spark plug wires as they were replaced by the previous owner.
Sounds like a heat sensitive sensor--either the crankshaft or camshaft unit. Is the check engine light on? If so, rent a scanner, read any code(s), and pursue to repair(s).
