Question about 1993 Toyota Celica

1 Answer

1993 Celica GT is leaking coolant. When I open the hood up there are beads of coolant on the radiator... What do I need to do? Also, my temp gauge never goes beyond the halfway mark, could it be not working properly?

Your thermostat isn't working properly obviously if it never goes above temp. it sounds like a radiator hose to me.

Car is not overheating but reading low coolant and smells like coolant

check for a coolant leak and make sure that the coolant is at the radiator cap or you will get a false low temp reading on the gauge

You need to bleed the coolant system. You have an air pocket in the system. There should be a bleeder valve above or around your water pump. With the car running at normal temp, get a wrench and open that valve up. You should see air come out. Be careful not to burn yourself because when you open the valve, the steam will spray all around. make sure you fill your coolant res up before you start so you dont run out of coolant in the middle of doing this.

it sounds like you are running out of coolant. refill and check for leaks. The coolant reservoir may have a leak. Your thermostat may need replacement.

1999 accord is leaking small amount of radiator

If a coolant temp sensor is not working, the fans will not activate, and fluid will go overboard the reservoir, and the temp gauge should have an abnormal reading. Happened to my 1998 accord that the top plastic tank above the radiator had a small leak right where it meets the aluminum honeycomb. It leaked only when hot, and evaporated right away, leaving no traces. Start the car and let it idle for 5 min, and then open the hood and check if the fans are coming on, and if you can see bubbling coming from the radiator top assembly.

Typically when there is steam coming from the hood there is a pin hole in the radiator or hose. Most of the time when I see this problem there was a small chip in the radiator from a stone. It would allow steam to push out of the radiator but it was small enough to not allow any fluid to drip out. Hope this helps!

Head gasket by the sounds hence no leaks, the water it is getting burnt off in the combustion chambers.

You need a coolant pressure & test doing to confirm.

2000 Toyota Celica coolant reservior empty

I hate to tell you this but its possible...

You have a leak. Look around on the driveway and try to determine if you have an external leak as opposed to an internal leak. If you see no coolant on the ground, suspect a blown head gasket. Do not continue to drive this car in this condition. If it does indeed have a blown head gasket, serious engine damage will occur.

Check your exhaust for white smoke. Chances are good you have a blown head gasket and coolant is leaking into the engines combustion chambers and is essentially burning off. Also check your oil, if it looks like caf mocha, this will confirm coolant is leaking into the oil via the blown head gasket
