What parts do i need for a tune up

if it is an EFI engine then the parts that you will need for a tune up will be indicated in the fault codes
The ECM of the vehicle continually tunes the engine while running ( around 100 times a minute) and as long as all the sensors are within parameters ,the engine will remain in tune
any sensors that are failing will leave a fault code and just because the engine light is not on doesn't mean that there are no fault codes recorded
basically "good mechanics do not fix what isn't broken"

Engine misfire and start and stop shows code po171 and po174

I'd use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Those are fuel trim codes.

How long since a tune-up? 02 sensors are part of a tune-up. I don't know if a tune-up will fix your problem, but, it's a start?

Engine problems

Hi there:
When was the last time the engine was full tuned up? This sounds like a classic ignition misfire! They usually go bad under a load like under acceleration, but can be noticeable at any time.

It is very important to have your engine equipped with good tune up parts or you may be causing damage to other components of you car like the catalytic converter which can be expensive.

Possible causes:

Ignition misfire causes by any bad tune up part and or ignition coil or coils.
Bad spark plugs, spark plug wires and cap and rotor (if equipped)
Wrong tune up parts spark plug, wires etc...

The quickest way to check the ignition components, is by looking closely for leaking secondary voltage. Visual look at all the tune up parts to see if you can see any sparks coming from any of the wires or coil (or coils) when the vehicle is running. If not, you can put your hand on the coil/coils and wires when the engine is running and see if you feel any small voltage leaking form the tune up parts.

It will leak secondary ignition voltage from the tune up parts caused by high resistance from carbon tracking if they are bad. This is very common if the tune up parts are not changed regularly!

If any is found, the tune up parts are simply bad and will need to be replaced! If none is found than you can spray a mist of water on the tune up parts when the engine is running and see if that causes the engine to stumble or run rough at all. Again, if it does, the tune up parts are bad and will need to be replaced.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

What is included in a tune up?

A tune up generally includes replacement of several parts on your car. These parts may seem superficial, but failing to replace them regularly can cause decreased performance in your car, and may even lead to other problems. For example, an air filter should be replaced at least once a year; failing to replace it when it's dirty will cause your engine to get less and less of the air it needs to run properly. If the problem is left unattended, the air-fuel mixture will continue to run richer and richer (meaning that there will be too much fuel and not enough air in the mixture) and eventually cause other parts to fail.

As you can see, a regular tune up is important to your car's performance. A tune up should involve replacing the air filter, replacing or cleaning the spark plugs, and replacing the distributor cap and rotor. A tune up can also include replacement of the spark plug wires, fuel filter, PCV valve, and oxygen sensor.

Keep in mind that genrally your Owners Manual include some form and periodical details refers at tune up and regular maintenance, check it.

I hope this helps (remember to rate and comment this free answer).

Engine sputtering while driving and idling odd

It seems the timing needs some tuning. Also all plugs need to be checked and changed if possible. It seems to be misfiring and a proper tune up job should solve the problem(including the plugs)...........sodeep

for a proper tune you can purchase everything you need at a auto parts dealer like O'reilly's or Auto Zone you can also purchase a manual that details the steps to take to insure it's done properly. the manual is not expensive and most tune ups are done for around a 100 dollars
