Do you mean the engine runs for 3 second and it shut down completely, and you get no dash lights, radios, interior lights and so on... while the key is still in the ignitions? If that is the case have your ignition switch check, the same part where you stick the key in. The unit tend to go bad over period of time and looses its contact. there is really no way of testing it unless you take the unit apart and jump the connectors. Do this first, put the key in the ignition and wiggle turning the key back and forth at the same time by starting the car and see if you get any contact playing with ignition switch. when you stick the key in the ignition, does any instruments lights lit up when the key is turn to on position? if not than it will be the ignition switch. If all of the intrument light come on while the key is turn to on position, try this also, get a jump from a friend car to make sure the weak battery and alternator is good and working properly.

Hi,
This could be a tricky one - so just go through the options methodically untill you effect a repair.

If it has an immobiliser fitted - try using another key. Sometims the chip in the key fails.

If you did anything prior to this problem - jetwashing, using a mobile phone near the steering column, serious work etc - try these areas first.

Check alternator function.
Check fuses.
Check fuel level.
Look for leaks.
Check belts condition.

It is behaving like a major electrical fault. Check the BIG fuses in the engine bay fusebox. After this - check that the ignition switch is supplying a switched live feed when in the "on" position.
It could be a faulty switch contact. Possible if you have uprated lights somewhere.

You probably fried a control module , It doesn't take long ! Would need to hook up a professional scan tool that can communicate with all the modules . Check codes the BCM - body control system . Without testing we would only be guessing . Your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop . Your looking at major bucks . I have worked at cadillac an have see this before ! Control Module Diagnostics with John Anello
Sorry but there is no way you'll be able to fix this !
This vehicle has electronic components which the service technician controls in order to provide valuable self-diagnostic information. These components are part of an electrical network that controls various engine subsystems and various body subsystems. 02Ford Taurus windows windshield wipers locks wont work

Sounds like the wire you used for power was oon the circut for all those other things, or if you pulled the fuse box down to hook radio up through the fuse box, you may have grounded out some wires, or knocked them loose. Use a test light or voltmeter and make sure you have power at the fuse box for wiper, dashlight, trunk release, door lock fuses.

So I have a 2001 Audi A6, and for some reason my middle console deal has been saying "cd in SAFE"? I've unhooked and rehooked the battery and have checked the fuse, it just doesn't seem to wanna go ba

You will need your 4 digit radio code. Sometimes you can find a sticker in the trunk next to your spare or in the glovebox. Otherwise you have to pull your radio for the serial number and call Audi for the code. I just used these instructions found on Fixya:
Turn on radio - the word SAFE will appear in the display. Press th P.SCAN and RBDS buttons simultaneously and hold them down until "1000" lights up in the display.Release buttons.Do not, under no circumtances, continue holding them down or press them once again. This will cause the radio to consider the number 1000 to be the input code.Use station buttons 1,2,3,and 4 to enter the code number on your Radio Card. Use the button 1 to enter the first number 2 for the second number 3 for the third number and 4 for the last number.Once you have entered the code and it shows on the display, press the P.SCAN and RBDS buttons down again simultaneously and hold them down until the word SAFE appears in the display.Release buttons.
You have three tries to enter the code correctly. If you do not, you will be locked out for at least an hour of car operation time. Good luck.
