Hi Rylee: Thanks for the tips, tried the opening the doors independently and pushing in the switches to no avail, do not know where the switch is located on the tail gate, it is not visable, or I do not know what that none looks like, I looked at the owners manual and found that the fuse for the warning light is the same as the Dome light as well as the radio, the radio works. The Driver Door is the only one that I opened up and closed this morning when I went to the VA. I will be going there again this afternoon and will be back tomorrow about 10 am and will try the battery disconnect (Good Tip there). I pulled the fuse to keep from draining the power until tomorrow, this car has been trouble free since I have owned it, only havee 82 k miles on it, change the oil every 2k miles and runs like a champ, will let you know what happens tomorrow, and again thanks a million for the advice. Warm Regards Tom

Hi again Rylee: Welll you got me a thinking, I went around to each door, opened them and re-pushed in the Door Jamb Switches and the light stayed on, opened the Sliding Door same thing. The Dome light came on each time, the door latch function as they are supposed to do, i.e. lock when the lock button on the drivers side is actuated, Took the van on the road and when I went over a rough spot in the road the dash light for the open door warning would flash off and on, went home, Opened the tail gate and shut it more forceably than I normally do and the light went out, I then unlocked the driver side door and the light stayed on, shut that and went to the tailgate, left it locked and squeezed the handle rapidly and the light went out. It seems to me that I have a loose connection in the TailGate latch, which is right on in what you had suspected for the doors. Thanks for your help. Warm Regards Tom

Thanks for using FixYa. Try and reset this Warning light as this can be a false alarm, remove the terminals from the battery and check if that resets the warning light. If that doesn't help then one of your door switches is either loose or it could be defective.Check one door at a time to find which one it is, they are located on the bottom of the door frame.
Check all the doors (and tailgate) to make sure they are all latched properly. Sometimes the metal contacts that tell your vehicle the door is closed become dirty or corroded, causing a FALSE indication that a door is ajar. Cleaning the contacts will usually solve this kind of problem.
Does the dome lamp come on when you open 1 door at a time with all doors?

If yes then probably a wire for a door switch is wore through and is grounding out where it passes through the door by the hinge side. To check, put all the door switches back in, then open one door at a time, and while holding the switch button in on the door, jiggle the wires and see if the light goes out.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Please follow the previous instructions first and if the problem is not resolved then try and remove the door panel to check for the door switch. Please follow this procedure to remove the door panel & check for the door switch--

    • Remove
the two Phillips screws in the arm rest and the singular screw holding the
cover in front of the door handle. Remove the outside mirror cover by
prying it off with the common screwdriver.

    • Remove
the door panel by inserting the common screwdriver in between the door
panel and the door. Slide the screwdriver along the outside circumference
of the door and pry the trim fasteners out of their recess.

    • Remove
the door panel and disconnect the electrical connectors to the switches.

    • Remove
the electrical connector from the power door lock through the access panel
      in the door.

    • Remove
the power lock mechanism located below the door latch. The power lock
mechanism is in a bracket attached to the back-side of the door below the
door striker. The door lock is snapped into its bracket with the rubber
bushings. It has a vertical rod running from the door lock to the door
latch. Unsnap the door lock and then lift it up and turn it so the rod can
be removed from the door latch.

    • Install
a new door lock switch if the previous one is bad and door panel in
      reverse order of removal.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Dash reads back door open when its closed

What vehicle is this? The easy answer is that the door switch is not turning off. Open the door/s and check for a little rubber bump somewhere along the frame. Push it in manually and see it this turns off the warning light. If it doesn't you might have a short to earth somewhere. If it does, you need to adjust the switch outward a little.
Good luck.

Dash lights for door adjar, seat belt, and windshield washer turn on in sequence then all turn off

You will need to replace the ignition starter switch, this switch is operated by a long steel rod from the ignition key cylinder, it is located under the dash on the top of the steering column tube, it has a very large connector going to it. See the photo below of the part.
Color of switch is black .

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is showing an amber warning light on the instrument cluster shaped like a motor but with door-like features on 4 sides. It remains lit while the other idiot lights go...

this configuration of light usually depicts a door is open or ajar. this could be caused by a door switch, the hood switch, the hatch switch, even your gas cap door might cause this to come on.
i would say that a proccess of elimnation would be the best course to take. start with one door open it and push the switch by hand untill you find the switch that makes the dash light go out.

if the doors when opened turn on the interior light and turn it off when closed the switch on these doors is good. these switches are either located in the door jam by the hinges or on the very end of the dash board.
the hood switch when you open the hood should allow the light on the bottom side of the hood to come on. pushing down on the switch should turn the light off.
this procedure should help you locate the problem switch
