Jack it up on stands and pull handbrake. then the wheel which is the problem strip it and check it inside even asking someone slowly slowly to pull the hand brake and watch to see what is working and what is not, probably the retainers are not working or no collect thickness of brake shoes etc.

Ive got a ford fiester 1996 n reg and my hand break is not stoping me if im parked on a hill, do i need to ghange the break flud ?

no. you need to tighten the hand brake cable, or if the is tightened to the max already then you need to replace it with a new one.

brake fluid low will be indicated with alight when the car is switched on (the same light that is one when the handbrake is applied will stay on when the hand brake is released.

Anyways, the hand brake is cable operated. This is normal as with time the steel cable stretches since it is put under enormous stresses when engaged.

Handbrake stuck on

The easiest way is to just cut the handbrake cable (the one that goes to the lever, hidden by the exhaust), but you will have to replace it afterwards.

How do i tighten the parking brake on my 1997 ford escort LX

If you can locate the Parking brake cable under the chassis, there should be a clevis that tensions two cables together, at this point you should be able to adjust the cables toward each other to tighten connections.

Hand brake

There could be a loose connection where it reads when the hand break is up. So it may be loose you would have to take apart your center consol where your handbreak is located and tighten up the sensor to see if that is infact the problem. But it really couldn't be anything else from my point of view

hope this helps

Handbrake cable

none really but do make sure the lip on the outside of the interior of the same is cleaned up with a small radial grinder so it has a slight outward bevel and make sure the shoes are adjusted up so the drum just slides over and slight scuffing noise can be heard when spun ,then tap drum with hammer and if noise stops then re adjust the shoes out a bit more .HANDBRAKE CABLES ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO STRETCH , so only change if the cable is seized
