Question about 2002 Kia Rio
The diagnosis by the mechanic may not be the full story. It could be 2 or more things have failed. Verify the new alternator is putting out what it is supposed to. Recheck the original alternator for out put.
If possible -have each diode in the original alternator checked (replace them if they are faulty) and recheck output. As stated in previous solution check wires to and from alternator to battery and to grounds ensure all are 100%!!!!. If after all that you still have a problem take it to a service shop that specializes in auto-electrics.
A alternator for an auto recycler is a choice instead of New. I have bought a few and not had problems (must match Car MFG)

I once replaced my alternator in a S10 three times before I got a good one that put out 14 volts, this one came with a lifetime warranty and cost more than the others. Chevy's used to have a problem with a rebuilt supplier. Have you checked for a bad ground wire? Try one more time but, make them test it before you pay and install it.

not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can
be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it
can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or
no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition
coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.
confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.
