The Spark Plug hole can be repaired. The professional way is to remove the cylinder head, and use a repair such as a Helicoil.

The spark plug hole is tapped out to a larger thread size, with a special Helicoil tap. Loctite or some other form of thread locker is applied, and the Helicoil is inserted.

Helicoil's are made of Stainless Steel, and are much better than the original material used in the cylinder head. (Be it cast iron or aluminum)
Drag racers use Helicoil's in their engines.

Tapping out the spark plug hole for a Helicoil, or using a special thread chaser, is NOT a good idea, while the cylinder head is still installed on the engine.
The tap creates chips of metal which fall down into the cylinder.
Using a vacuum to try to alleviate the chips, falls short of a good repair job.

You should talk to a mechanic......

i do know that when you damage threads you can ussually repair them by drilling out the damaged threads and inserting a "Heli-Coil"
"Keenserts" or "Microdot"

they involve drilling out stripped threads, tapping the hole and installing a prewound insert "

making welding plugging or oversize fasterners unnecessary"

You can rethread the hole and replace the spark plug. there is a speacial tap you can buy that is a magnet to prevent shavings from getting inside the engine. This will buy you some time to start saving some cash. It depends on how bad it is. I have seen them last a few weeks to years before they blow the plug out of it.

good luck

How to replace a cylinder head on 2001 Ford Expedition 4.6 L V8

Actually, rather than replace the head, you can fix the spark plug hole with a "Time-Sert":

http://www.timesert.com/

One thing they talk about on the site, "Ford spark plug blow-out? Repair kit part number 5553 Ford Triton spark plug kit will repair blown out spark plug's in Ford heads."
Here's the page for Ford's repair kits:

http://www.timesert.com/html/sparkplugford.html

I've used these for years, and they work great!
Much better than a Helicoil, as the Time-Sert retains full thread strength!

But....I would STILL recommend removing the head to do this repair, so as to avoid metal chips/shavings from falling into the cylinder, but you'll save the cost of a new head!

a spark plug may have stripped out and popped out of the cylinder head. Ford dealers are making lots of money fixing this common problem.

Spark plug blows out need to find out what an how to fix

THere are really only 2 ways to fix this, and you must be mechnically inclined to do it. You have stripped the thread in the head so you either have to 1) replace the whole head assembly or 2) get the spark plug hole tapped and rethreadded.

I have a 1997 ford expedition and one of the spark plugs has broken off and it has also rounded off.How do I get it out?

There is a special tool that is only available from Ford designed specifically for that issue. I am not aware of any other way to get it out except to drill it which is very very dangerous as you stand a chance of damaging the head and plug hole.

My small town mechanic says plug has jumped out and stripped threads he dont have tool to fix it..how much will it cost to rethread at dealer ..or should I just drive it with jenweld holding plug in until...

Are you talking about a spark plug? They make a special tool for retapping spark plugs on 4.6 and 5.4. If you buy the tool it will likely cost less than what it would cost for someone to do it. The tool comes with instructions to fix it.

Ford spark plug blow out

do not put any putty or any thing like that.by stating anything about caulk,putty,i.e.,you are not qualified to fix your truck.a mechanic can install a helio-coil thread repair insert.this involves drilling cast iron at a precise angle, one repair you should leave up to pros. Gino R
